  • Keith, just a question, ....

I was reviewing your site, why didn't you go with the full engine rebuild? It did not see any information on a new set of pistons. rings, etc, since the engine was under construction anyways..

Just looking for info and is the firebird your daily driver?

dave - hope to see you around Chicago

If anyone knows the Midwest F Body site I would appreciate the URL and ability to show up to one of the locations....

Its not worth it on the V6 imho. I could spend a couple gran on internals, R&D and whatnot.... but why? its just a V6.

I'll just blow it up with nitrous and spend $500 on a replacement motor.

Hmmm... I would buy a 2nd block and build a supercharged or turbo setup. All you would really need would be a set of forged pistons, might be able to reuse the stock rods. I think a stock 3.8 can probably handle 8-9 lbs of boost if it was intercooled.

There is a kit in the works that is aimed at 10lbs of boost. We shall soon find out.

No it doesn't work good at all. Shift points willl still be off. It only fixes the speedo.

                          slacker,

The SCU *can* take off the speed limiter, but all it does is stop the speedometer at 100. That means that if you set the SCU to disable the speed limiter, at WOT the car will not shift into 4th gear. Our transmission shifts into 4th at ~104mph, if the car only reads 100mph then it wont shift. The SCU2000 has a little jumper that you set to enable/disable the speed limiter. I keep mine enabled so it will shift into fourth at WOT. I have never really needed to go that fast at WOT anyway, so its not that big of a deal.

                          ~Brian

                            Woah!! I didn't spend 1700 on heads/cam!!! I spend under 1000.

The jet SCU works decently. It does what it claims to do.. and yes I use it to have no top speed limiter.

The problem with the Jet scu is that it only corrects the speedo, not the shift points.. so you have to manipulate your speedo with the Jet SCU to get shift points that you like. (Shift points are based off of MPH).
