What data exactly are you looking to get from it? Most crash investigations just use basic physics, but now they use computers to input all the data. D=

from what I understand it is usually associated with the airbag system, I think it's like a CYA thing for GM so if something happens and your air bag goes off they can say "well you were going X miles an hour and decellerated at.. blah blah blah.. and that's why your airbag went off" I have no clue how to get that info out though...

im 99% sure its only for 5 seconds or so before the airbag went off. it tells you speed, breaking applied, throttle position, and a bunch of other ****.

It could be stored in the airbag module, located under the arm rest storage compartment.
They had a thing on a nightly news about this. a guy in a pewter T/A hit these girls at a 100 mph or something and killed them. they were going to school. anyway they pulled it out from under the passanger side seat and it records only the first 5 seconds before bag deployment. like a mini flight data recorder :D

this guy was driving drunk doing 120 down a 30 mph residential street at around 1 am and killed 2 girls pulling out of a driveway and pushed them 3 houses they died but he lived the news said that the car had a data recorder and that helped convict him
