  • PCM Programming Top Secret?

I can't seem to find any information on programming my own PCM. I can program all sorts of other things anywhere from dss satellite cards to playstation 2 modchips. I make them all myself home made. I know how to flash chips and edit code and all that good stuff. However I can't seem to be able to find any information on what kind of hardware/software I need to reprogramm the chips inside our cars. I'd like to be able to make my own changes and not pay the high $400-$500 price to do these changes. I understand that when I pay somebody that much it's mostly paying for the knowledge they have gained and are able to use it, but still.. I am the do it yourself type guy and I would like to do it myself for a cheaper price. Is anybody here interested in trading programming knowledge? Or just simply point to the right sites to purchase hardware/software to do your own editing?

    Thanks :D

I spent MANY months, almost a year researching.

It's NOT easy at all. Several people have caught onto me and are very much interested in some of the PCM files I have (they are the REAL DEAL)..

A few more people want to work with me to reverse engineer the GM OBD-II PCM..

I MIGHT make this an open source project, but I have to consult with a few legal people first.

Let me tell you, there is 512KB of code.. all assembled hex.. it is impossible to decipher.

          skEwb, and/or Magnus...
would it be possible to make a computer program with a gui and easy input commands. have a custom built connector (USB on the computer custom end to car's pcm) I wouldnt mind writting a check to y'all for like $50-100, download the prog and instructions on how to build the connector. then being able to connect a laptop with your software to the car, and changing spedo settings, temp, ratios, air flow... the whole nine yards. I guess the question is; Is is possible?

It is possible and I know of 2 other teams who are working on that.. 1 is a few guys that have done it successfuly, another is a manufacture of a very popular tuning software..

MY project will probably become open source..

The fee's I will charge in the end will be small, and pay for my time and a piece of the hardware only.

I decoded the hex transmissions on Innovonics alarms. Which as far as i know are used by ADT. Go me! It wasn't nearly 512k of code, but the random numbers are kind of a tough obsticle.

Hey Magnus have you been able to find any references to what different opcodes mean on the chip? Do you know if its documented anywhere? Because I was thinking if OBD-II is a standard then all of what makes it up should be available to anybody looking to develop.

                    no online refrences in existance.

The standards were supposed to be relased a while back.. never have.

Mangus, keep me informed. I would really like software that made changes easily! I like the idea behind the auto-tap software, however nothing can be changed to the pcm.. its only monitoring software. this would be good for me IF i had a way to change the pcm around and then go look at the a-tap to see what it did to the car. Like i said let me know how you progress with your project- email me!!

Has anyone bought the SAE J1979 standard yet?

There should be some very useful info in that. I just haven't brought myself to spend 60 bucks on it yet.

this is just my thought if you sent a pcm to be reprogramed and then just coppying this program to be reuploaded with your software on to other peoples pcm. wont that work?

hex is hard to deal w/ when you're used to looking at stuff in decimal. My Computer networking/programming class has to use binary and hex all the time. make yourself a key, and decifer the easiest stuff first. as you get the more common pieces, the others will come more easily. Just keep trying.
