• 3.8 Intake Manifold Spacer

Just ordered one from http://ww2.netnitco.net/users/cheetah/g3023.html
and a gasket too. Also, I bought a used lower intake from ebay for $10, and I'm gonna polish the runners when the cold winter months hit.
After the installation, I may have to remove my STB, because my intake is within an inch of it now. Or, modify it (hammertime!) where they come into close contact.
Do you think the new spacer will throw a ses light?
If it does throw an ses, I'm removing the spacer because there is no-one or no-where I can get my PCM reprogrammed to accommodate the difference.

make sure you get 2 new intake gaskets, not just one. my engine has 20k miles on it, and the gasket tore when i removed the upper intake..don't bother trying to reuse it.

has anyone tried that thing yet?

intake removal pictures would be nice if you have them.. I was looking at mine and it looks like a bit of a PITA to get off.. looks alot more difficult the the valve covers..

zzperformance dyno'd one ina 3.8 liter grand prix {basically the same asa camaro} and got 9 hp and 8 lbs of torque to the wheels at peak and 30 rwhp at 5800 rpm. I think that is a good buy for sure.

Yeah.. zzp got pretty good numbers..

HOWEVER! I intakes are very different aparently..
the FWD cars seem to have square ports.. where as ours are more circular/ovular..

not to mention we are working with a cast intake.. where as the FWD 3.8's have a plastic one..

i think that we could get potentialy more gains.. due to the type of intake we have.. however i could be way off..

I had my whole injection system and coil packs removed within 2 hours once (taking my time), so I'm guessing it should take an experienced mechanic about 3-4 hours to tear it down and reinstall everything. Again, I'm guessing...

i can have upper manifold pics soon, BUT, they're essentialy the same design.

mind you, the upper manifold is to a mirror polish, like the part of the lowers you see, however where it meets the head, it is a satin finish, air has to atomize somewhere.

i looked into getting the one from intense before, and someone on here said that it doesnt fit in out cars, i dont remember who said it but a search should find it... ALTHOUGH, this one may be smaller than the intense spacer(same as zzp), and if it is i would expect lower hp gains, but let me know if this fits and works for ya ;)

actually i just compared the two spacers, the one your talking about is definately for our intakes, should work great.

anybody know if this would be good with a cam, or would the extra velocity or whatever just be overkill with a bigger cam??

Hockyeman, you got that spacer in yet? I'm curious as to if you can tell any difference?

More top end from the taller intake?

Temp gauge reading cooler?

Didn't notice any differnce at all?
Thanks,
JAM
02 Firebird GT
