  • Need some input

ok, my 95 3.8L camaro doesn't have much left in her........but i DO NOT wanna get rid of her. Some of my friends (HUGE car junkies) have been hassling me to let them swap a V8 into it.....well i think the time has come. We are going to do all the work ourselves, but i need some input from you guys on which to go with LS1 or LT1. i know the LT1 has 285 hp, and the LS1 has 300 hp........but what else am i looking at? and i know that the LT1 can prolly fit easier, but i see magnus has done the LS1 swap into his 97....so its NOT impossible :D

anyways, if you guys can give me some pros and cons it would be GREATLY appreciated!

oh, i got like 4grand to use......and my friends say go with the LS1...but i dunno if they are aware of any obstacles that may arise.

    thanks guys!

The LT-1 is cheaper has a stronger block but not as much horsepower stock. The LS-1 has an aluminum block and more horsepower stock. Both have great aftermarkets. If you are going forced induction anytime in the future the LT-1 would last longer due to the stronger cast iron block. They are both great engines. It's a matter of preference and what you are planning for the future.

with 4 grand you are really close to a LT1 crate engine.... brand new, no miles. 2500 more and you can convert it to LT4 heads, hot cam and intake which will jump you to around 425 horsies at the crank. check out www.paceparts.com and search lt4 kit.
im looking into this but its gonna be at least two years down the road after I pay off my car because when i do it, its gonna be a HUGE investment.
Most LT1 aftermaket parts are slightly cheaper than LS1, but not so that if you can afford one, you cant afford the other. Supercharges are a few hundred cheaper, but again when your talking over 3 grand, a few hundred is only a percentage.

i cant find the link to the site i was on yesterday. its still around the 4500 for the 95-97 lt1. ill keep looking for it.
just remember after the engine you will still have to find a tranny to bolt it to.

You could feasably get a used LT-1 and tranny from a junkyard have it rebuilt and in your car for close to $4K. About 7K if you do the LT-4 upgrade
