what are the more ideal cams for each ive did some searching and i never found any kind of real comparason, i found a lot of cam specs and have decided to i think play around with 220/220 .450/.450 114 for turbo application. I though it would be nice, to see what Others believe to be the best for certain cams. I dont really know much about them but it seems there are many around here that do, so help us out, this would be a great archive post about cams if we can get some good information about Boost vs Nitrous Vs NA cams that way you can eventualy "pick you poision"

boost vs nitrous vs NA cams??

NA cam you want lots of duration and a tight lobe seperation. Supercharger cams like to favor exhaust more than intake in both duration and lift and like the least amount of valve overlap possible in our cars a 115lsa is used to achieve this. Turbo cams like to favor the intake or atleast run single pattern and also have a high LSA like 115 on our cars. Nitrous cams are like Supercharger cams.
Examples:
NA CAM: 212/212 .520/.520@1.6 112lsa
Nitrous Cam: 212/218 .520/.528 114lsa
Supercharger Cam: 206/218 .512/.528 115lsa
Turbo Cam: 218/212 .528/.520 115lsa
This is what I have found from my research. I dont think anybody really knows if this is completly accurate with our cars because not a lot of us run cams YET. I purchased my new compcam 218/218 .528/.528 113lsa 110ic for NA performance. I dont know anybody running the grind I purchased I think I might be the first.
Dont quote me on the specs I just threw them out as examples from what I know. They should give you an idea atleast. The people at compcams know alot also. You can ask them to recomend specs and if your talking to somebody good they will. Usually they recomend something small because they dont want to be liable for the SES light or tuning issues.

A lot of people on turbobuick.com are running cams that favor the exhaust.
Cam Shaft Tech (duration)
In fact, it would seem that almost all of the people with aftermarket cams favor the exhaust or use a symmetrical cam. Don't get me wrong, there are a few with cams that favor the intake, but it seems the majority have gone the other way.
But I will add the disclaimer that without testing it on our 3.8L, can't say what we need for sure.Matt
2000 Firebird

FullThrottleV6.com

I am pretty good friends with 2 GN guys. Both of them run cams that favor intake. And both there cars haul *** . One of the cam is a 230/224 and the other is like a ???/206. But they both favor intake. I also talked to the guy at compcams about this and he recomended to favor intake or single pattern for a turbo cam. I really dont think it will matter too much on what cam you put in the turbo car though unless you are running lots of boost. I would say anything under 12 pounds boost probly wont react any different to a turbo cam vs. a NA cam or any other cam. Might see minimal gains but I really dont think it will make that much different at small boost levels.

I agree with Preston.. good work..
Favor in intake vs exhaust flow and you know how to favor your duration when designing a cam.
Our exhaust flows VERY well which is why for NA cams we don't need big exhaust favors.. an intake favor might actually work very well for NA.Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP

Odd, a couple of guys I talked to at Comp said that our stock heads don't flow that great on the exhaust side so that's why we need to favor it even when NA. Then when going for nitrous or a supercharger then you favor the exhaust even more. That's what I noticed about the cams on this site http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD& Store_Code=PFYC&Product_Code=WB3020&Product_Count= 33&Category_Code=GPUNDER

You believe comp over the 3.8 experts on this board? I would trust other members on this board about our heads more than I would trust what compcams says about our heads.

WTF??? Doing previous searches you have cast off a reverse split duration cam for our cars. Now you changed your mind? What made you do this.

I talked to Tom at Super Six Motorsports and he said that he should start porting and polishing the intake for the 3.8's bigger than the exhaust because it flows so well...1999 Firebird Black
A4 3.08 gears
Mods: Carbon Fiber Whisper Lid, Raised Air Box, K&N Air Filter, Direct Hits Ignition, Flowmaster American Thunder 3\", 160 Degree Hypertech Thermostat, SLP Fan Switch, 3\" High Flow Cat
My car on Cardomain
