One of my freinds was telling me this is what adjusts the timing on our cars? I'm wanting to know what is it telling the computer with my new cam and what is it making it do?
Causing the timing to be off? What else will it make the computer do wrong with my cam?

What the P0300 code is, in short, is this: The way your car detects a misfire, is with the crank position sensor. It watched the speed at which the crank turns. Well with the motor "camming" the speed goes up, and down, and up. So at various points in the combustion cycle, it sees the erratic idle as multiple, and random, misfires. Raising the idle a bit helps, but our cars will throw this code VERY easily and with somewhat small camshafts. The trick is when you have an actual misfire due to a burnt wire or something, and it cannot specify which cylinder it is because of the cam...then you get to trouble shoot or stare at a scanner to see which cylinder is actually misfiring

I know the code doesnt mean any thing and its just the PC thinking something is wrong. What does the sensor adjust and what is it telling my motor to do (as far as A/F or timing)?

It doesn't control your timing or anything...it simply tells the PCM what RPM your motor is spinning at, and if there are misfires. Your AIT, MAF, ECT, MAP, and O2's do the majority of the work for timing and fuel adjustments.
