  • Need help with fuel pump bucket

On the instruction there seems to be a mention of glue for the bucket. What glue is used to the bucket assembly.

    Need help really quick.

I don't know what glue, but I ditched the bucket and it still works perfectly. So if you don't get any responses just put it in without the bucket. I used a piece of rubber to get it in position and then used hose clamps to secure it. This was almost a year ago and np problems.

      oh, strange.

No idea what glue he is talking about. It seems strange to glue the bucket back together. What if you have to change pumps again?

He mentions it ...'came with the pump...'

      hmmm....
I guess you would need a gasoline resistant glue...that works with plastic.

That whole portion of the pump swap seems strange, though. I thought we were good to go once we put in the effort to 'get to the pump.'

ssms5411 just said he was fine with out the bucket...anybody else have feedback for this whole bucket deal?

To me, the bucket looks like it's important.

My walbro is installed without the bucket and has been working fine forever just a little noisy! ;)

Mine is also just band strapped to the arm.

I notice too that nothing match when I had the bucket out. Hose, clamps, opening and so on. I had to break the top off with a philip. The hose doesn't match with want I've got that's to connect to the pump and there is no clip on it either. I have to cut it off.

The bucket has a small orifice which would probably would hamper the pump's sucking power. I went ahead and fabricated a clip to hold the assembly together.

I was going to ditch the bucket too but I didn't because I was told that I have a Calif. car and the bucket is crucial for emission purpose. That's probably why it's different.

Oh, well I just hated leaving my tank wide open like that with gas fuming out. I just went ahead put it all together with the old stuff I have and put in the new pump. Seems to be OK, can't really drive it out to much because of the heavy rain.

            Thanks for the help.

The bucket is used as a resevoir for the gasoline so that when you're running low on gas and go around a turn, the car doesn't sputter and stall because there's still gas in the bucket for the pump to suck up.

Autozone, Home Depot, Lowes, Advanced Auto, any hardware or auto store really should have glue that works in gasoline. I bought mine at advanced auto.

The walbro pump doesn't fit exactly right in the bucket, you have to cut out the notch on the inside of the bucket to get the pump to sit flush in there. As for the hoses, i just went by trial and error until it worked right.

Sorry if I posted this too late.

A dremel with a grinding tip works good.
