• V8 or Turbo

Well over the next 6 to 8 months Im saving up $3500-$4000. I wanted to get a turbo but now Im thinking engine drop, MAYBE. I just have some questions...

    is http://www.tacreationsusa.com/ still selling engines?

What else will I need, a rear end, K-Member, ect...

How much is this kinda job gonna cost to have done? I dont have a lift but if I could just use a cherry picker and elbow grease (of course lots of other ****) is this possible in ur own garage?

I have a 2000 v6 Bird, so Im trying to think of the best route here, really appreciate all insight on this.

Engine, tranny, belt-driven accessories, pcm, ingition, everything. It's A LOT of work dude, my roomate put an LT1 into a '96 it took two weeks of constant work. You'd be better off selling your car and using that 3500-4000 to buy a V8 car

Turbos are crap. I miss my exhaust sound, throttle response, and my tranny.

        Go for the V8 swap.

        Wish I had.

tacreations is still selling engines. But I would suggest what wickedsix said, and then either powerdyne or procharger.

Man, you have a 2000. If you really want a v8...that is a pretty big job to do a conversion. big list of things. big.

your 2000 should still fetch some good value as a used car.

              I think the LS1 started in 1998?

have you searched around to see if there are any good condition 1998+ LS1 cars for sale in your area? how mauch are they asking? compare the difference in price and then divide by head ache potential of a swap.

I don't mean to be hard on you for what I am about to say/ask....but, if you asked how hard or do-able it was to swap out v6 for v8...in your garage....it might be a pretty big job for you then. Definatly not to be taken lightly. These cars are not like putting a 318 v8 in a v6 dart. you have not only the PCM to consider...but the fuel system...tranny, man, a whole bunch of stuff.

Also, Some states have VERY strict laws concerning engine swapping. It is fallout from car theft rings and chop shops. You may save money by having insurance company THINK you have a v6 but I don't recommend you take them for granted. It will always be gamble if you were involved in accident or if you move out of state...and have to get inspection. Save your paperwork, etc., if you do a swap...that is for sure.

Grayman, I appreciate the criticism, hard sounding or not. Everyones telling me their opinions along side facts and thats why I ask If anyone thinks its a dumb idea feel free to say it. I thought about it and a swap I wont do, Ill wait til later for a v8, Im not goin anywhere. My goal b4 was to have a V6 thats gonna stand up with the big boys and I will continue that. Im going to be modding this thing so much Ill be selling it for some cash later, then Ill buy a used LS1 and work it up to perfection too. The only thing scary is my engines almost to 80k, and Im so scared of loosing it if I do all this modding, I still want to get hard on things, might need to do a rebuild, might help, no?

I guess be carefull putting too much money in it. it will he hard to get that investement back when you sell the car...if that is your ultimate goal.

80,000 miles shouldn't be too many miles to worry about. As long as engine has been taken care of with good oil changes and stuff.

Not too late for head change/ valve job either. On high mileage engines doing a valve job will often times raise compression in engine and cause more oil blow by of the piston rings than before the valve job. but at 80,000 miles you should be ok if you go that far with modding.... fancy heads, etc,. Valvetrain work should be fine as well. As long as you are in there to swap cams, adding a new timing chain, lifters, springs, (pushrods too) should rejuvinate engine as well as add performance at this stage.

Yeah when I do the cams I plan on new Chain, Lifters , spinrgs and pushrods, I didnt want to do that job without the other stuff. I want to get new heads down the line too, with some new pistons, any sites with a piston set for our cars?

Also its either turbo or supercharger, but with a supercharger its 1, more expensive and 2, how high can u boost it? A turbo I can take over 15psi, which will be good for the track.

if your looking for resale value, dont mod your car. 2 identical car models, one modded and one stock, the stock one will sell for more $$ almost everytime. most people here (including myself) who have dumped thousands of dollars into their cars have no intentions of selling it anytime soon becaus ehtere is no way you will get your investment back.

No I plan on keeping this car with me for a VERY long time, if not me then my brother will take it. I love my car, I just hate seeing the miles climb, I dont want to loose it.
