  • 3.4L cam.. too much lift?

Aight, i've been doing searches on here and i havent really found what i was looking for. I'm buot to do a cam swap on a 3.4L for my 95 camaro. I was gonna get in on a group buy over at lonestarsix.com and they are offering a custom grind with specs 226/234 (intake/exhaust) duration and.471/.498 lift with somehting round 110-112 LSA. I also wanna run 1.6 roller rockers. will this be possible without having clearance issues with the valve guides, pistons, and such? if i would have clearance issues, how could i solve them? i have access to a machine shop so i'd imagine that i could shorten the valve guides by myself. I'm also going to port and polish and redo the entire valvetrain (will reuse valves, but thats it). How bout other injectors? i was planning on puttin a 255lph fuel pump and adjustable regulator on as well. I realize that im askin a lot here but i really need answers and i couldnt find any thing previous that discussed this topic in detail. Thanks for your help...

Is the lift on a 1.5:1 or a 1.6:1 rocker ratio. Many manufacturers base the lift on a 1.5:1 ratio because that is stock, but the people doing the GP may have it already set up on a 1.6:1 ratio.

Shorten the valve guides? What good would that do? If the cam is 471/498 at 1.5 ratio rockers, then at 1.6 ratios, the lifts would be around 503/531. The only clearances you will need to worry about would be with the pistons, not the valve guides.

On the stock 2.8 and 3.1 heads the valve guide would get start to get in the way with a seal in place with that lift.
I think that the 3.4 heads are different.

The lift was for 1.5 rockers. It would be .531/.502 exhaust/intake with the 1.6 rockers. I thought i had read on some post that over .510 was getting close to having things meet and greet each other... personally, id like to use my factory short block as i have a good low mileage unit. Whats the biggest cam that any of you have heard of being used on a 3.4L? Viper, i see you've got a cam in your 3.4L up around .500 of lift. how do you like it? would you go bigger if you could or would that be getting too big for the limited amount of tuning availible for our cars? Thanks for all the help guys...

The cam I have for mine is matched to the head flow data. I don't think that cam you are talking about would be too safe. Just sounds like too much to me.

With my heads I'm going with .480''/.480'' with my 1.5/1.6 ricker combo. The springs, retainers and lock setup I'm useing are good for .525'' of lift but the seals and guide limit it to about .510'' depending on how safe I want to be.
Nothing like fresh new springs, Titanium retainers and machined forged steel locks.
Spring bind and max compresion is all dependant on the spings them selves. Differnt springs have different measurements for installed, max compression and bind highs.
That's 2.8 heads, 3.4 heads are cast the same but machined differently.
