about the t5, its the same t5 on the v8 mustangs, and some of them are pusshin some serious hp. Im sure it would be easier to get the tranny rebuilt than to buy a new 6 speed and get a custom bellhousing made for it. But i could be wrong. just saying because my friend has a 332 in an old 5.0 body, with the t5, doin wheel stands at the line.

For information about the Tremec (Borg-Warner) T5, check out this thread.

The tranny is plenty strong... like 375 max. If you need more, there is a suggestion for a tougher tranny in there.

P.S. If he was doing wheel stands on a T5, it must have been modified. My brother trashed his tranny with just motor adders. (Cam, lifters, etc) It was a 5.0 mustang.

guys, i know i'm new here, but, you can put any engine and tranny together, put it in just about any car, and the t-5 tranny is a very good tranny.

go look over at www.hybridz.org those guys have put just about every tranny and engine into little 280z's. i know thqis for a fact, i have one...just rebuilding the v-8 to put in it...but anyway, point i'm trying to make is this...think outside of the box...any conversion is possible, just depends on what you want and can afford...

The man has a point. If you're looking to swap engines anyway, might as well spend the money on something that's gonna put down some power. I mean, I've seen a 3800 series II with just about everything you can do to it done. (and still keep it N/A) and the thing will only put down around 200 HP. Don't get me wrong, I love my 6, but if I'm gonna do all the work to swap I would start looking at LT1s or even a new LS1. Think about it, who would suspect an LS1 in an '96 6 cyl. frame. Be real sweet to pull up at a light and surprise someone. ;) Just a thought.

200 hp and you think he had everything that he could have. He didnt. If you run everything you can have N/A (heads, cam, domed pistons, con rods, stroker crank, fuel system, tranny, and a big *** rear end, and running like 15:1 or higher compression then you are talking in the upper reaches of 4 to 500 horses man. Anyways your right that putting a LS1 in his body would be suprizing. But who would be expecting a TTA engine in a car like that? And stop telling him to get a V-8 he dont want one. I have seen plenty of GN's in the 10 and 11 sec range and they havent even done much to there cars. An LS1 would be nice but then with a TTA engine you can say that you kicked there V-8 in your V-6.. :D

i've seen 6-cyl mustangs, as week as they are, as well as 5.0 stangs and even some s-10's tear up t-5's like they were make of aluminum or something. tearing one down, even for basic overhaul, i always need to replace all synchros, all bearings and bushings, and all thrust washers. if i'm lucky i don't need to look for input, counter, or output shafts. the t-5 is crap. but i guess it depends on the driver....

GN or TT/A engine with sequential injection and the 4L60E from a WS-6 or something... ahhhh......
would require serious PCM programming but it could be done. i'm dreaming.....

ive done alot of reasearch on this topic of meetin up a t5 or t56 tranny to a gn. the gn engine will completely rip that trans to shreads. also with the engine being turbo, you would waste all of your power during shifts. everytime you shift, your psi will drop to 0. to have a turbo and a stick you need a high reving rice engine. supra rx7 skyline, yeah sorry to sauy it but even a civic. gn redline at like 5 grand rpm. not 8grand. ohh and by the way i hear that you can use a gn 109 block, but bolt up tta heads. whats the advantage you ask. avalibility of parts. just try and find a tta block or crank or anything for that matter. gn are easier to find.
