  • how to detect valve float?

    is there a way?

Im gonna be running a pretty insane cam pretty soon, and I know what springs it reccommends and all, but I already have some aftermarket LT1 springs of some sort, but Im not sure on their specs. If I run the cam how will I be able to tell there is float, without loosing a piston or 6 ;) ?

    thanks

Well... you would see it on a dyno.. I bet you could feel it too.

Basically, you'll have a HUGE loss in power.

What seat pressure are your springs? If your cam is very insane almost like a solid roller, I'd say no less than 125lb seat pressure.

It also depends on what you want to rev to also.

getting new springs to match the cam/lifter/rocker combo would be your safest option. valve float can hurt more than hp/tq, if your valve hits the piston, you're in some serious trouble. it's a good idea to take care of the entire drivetrain when you get a new cam. this means lifters, rockers, springs, seats, maybe valves, pushrods, and maybe timing chain.
