• 216/216 111 or 218/218 113 Can't Decide

I'm doing some cam studying/shopping. I've got the intention to do the SSM heads with 1.9" valves, P&P upper & lower intakes, P&P TB with sensor. I'm giving serious consideration to upping the springs to handle a larger lift for possible future boost (but not an issue here, I"ll buy another cam if that happens). I will be running nitrous at the track with her, but otherwise NA.

I'm having trouble deciding between the
    Comp Cams GT2 @ ZZP
    216/216 0.507/0.507 111LS ???LC

    PGriffth Custom Grind
    218/218 0.528/0.528 118LS 110LC

I'm fond of the Duration and LC on the custom grind, but the Lift and LS seem more favorable to what I want on the GT2. According to older posts, either one should grant me acceptable gains NA, but which would you recommend for occasional N2O useage?

im getting the 218/ grind for the spring, i was tempted to go to 216.

not sure what the difference is as n2o related, but onequickv6 is a big fan of the pgriffith, its in his right now,

Just an fyi, both of those cams will make their peak power above 6k rpms.

As quoted from ZZPerformance.com on the GT2

quote:
Upgraded pushrods are recommended but not needed. RPMs past 6300 will require upgraded springs. Either 90 or 105# springs are recommended for high RPM use.

This cam was designed for naturally aspirated applications where maximizing the performance of stock heads is important. It will set the P0300 code unless programmed out of the PCM. Idle is lumpy, especially with headers. Raised shift points (6500), raised rev limiter (7k), and gears/converter are all recommended.

The PCM programming I'm willing to do no problem (I figured that was going to happen with either cam since these are somewhat large). By raising the shift points to 6500, I'm hoping that will put me into the peak power of the cam.

I'm trying to find a good balance. I want the car to be adle to idle, but I don't mind the lumping. I'm also looking for something that will react well with the SSM package as well as the occasional N2O shot.

I can second that notion. The car pulls VERY hard up to my stock rev and speed limiters. I'd love to get it programmed to see what kind of power my car really makes

Where do you suppose the peak power drop on that cam is?

OneQuickV6 how pleased with that cam are you? How's the idle? Have you autotapped your car with it to see if you're running rich higher in the RPM band? What issue's have you had arise from this cam since you've had it? Anything else (besides custom PCM tuning) you would recommend with it?

Any help on yours would be great!

            Thanks!

This is true. But there is a very noticable gain even in the lower rpms.

pgriffth - Did you ever get your pcm reprogrammed when you installed this cam, or did you run it on stock programming?

I bought a miniAFC from ZZP. Used autotap and miniAFC to tune it. Got it tuned pretty good. Without tuning it was running pig rich.

we found fuel in the oil and it seized. I honestly havent even tried to figure out why. I swapped in a lt1 instead. I am pretty sure it was not cam or cam install related.

It depends on how your car reacts. When i installed my cam in my engine I had absolutly 0% knock at all times. Timing still looked good as well. The A/F was off though. I got the A/F tuned with the miniafc and autotap. So this combo worked great for me. I am almost definatly sure there was something wrong with my knock sensors. When I sold my cam to "" i forgot his name he had a **** load of knock. So if its more then tuning A/F which is all the miniAFC and autotap will let you do then have it reprogrammed. ****ty thing is programming is limited and is expensive.
