  • New Engine

I posted a little while ago on how I was going to rebuild my 3.8L engine this summer and was going to buy a used one to put in till its done. My question is if the engine has sat for a while i'm sure the oil in it has drained down and parts are not lubricated well. So is there any way to get the engine lubricated before I start it, I want to stay away from dry starting it as much as possible so I would not hurt it.

Pull the fuel injector relay and ICM relay (Or just pop the wires off the coil packs.

Then just crank it for about 15 seconds.

Take the plugs out and use a straw to drop a little trans fluid in each hole.

If you have this engine on an engine stand that rotates. Rotate it all the way around once. Oil will fill the valve covers and then flow back down. Can't get more prelubed than that. Really, if it's been sitting for less than a year in a sealed state(not missing spark plugs or valve covers/ all holes capped off), as a used engine should be before you buy it, you won't need to do anything.
