  • head gasket leaking/port and polish

i had the bird up on the lift yesterday to change the oil.
and i saw what seems to be the head gasket starting to let coolant seep out between the head and the engine block. my questions are simple.
#1 is there by any chance there is a recall on the gaskets for our 3800 v6 engine (that would rock)
    and
#2 if i do tear it all apart....i want to port and polish the intake if it will give me a signifficant power gain. if any of you guys have any knowledge on porting and polishing the intake, as to the power gains and tips for doing it....please let me know.
    thanks

    #1. No.
#2. You would gain alot if running a power adder or aftermarket camshaft. P&P is just time consuming. Take a drimel bit to it for about 10-15 hours and it will be good. Also do a search for a intake manifold spacer. Those will show significant gains.

Also this is a general tech. question not advanced. So be looking for this in Genral. Not Advanced tommarow or in a few minutes.

      1. The GPs/fwd cars have an issue of leaking coolant from teh intake manifold. might be a tsb out there.

about #2? take it somewhere they have a flowbench, you cant tell if you are keeping everything flowing the same without one

Becareful P&P'ing the upper intake manifold, there isn't much meat in the runners, so you could cut right through them.

thanks guys...and sorry about having this in the wrong section. (my bad)

anyway, it turns out to be the back of the intake manifold....and it seems to be oil. Originally i saw wetness on the head where it meets the block, but it turns out that it's traveling down from the rear of the intake....between the engine and the firewall. so i gues i'm not going to yank the heads. this is my everyday driver, and i've got to get her back up and running asap.

that also leads me with questions about a cam.
as far as cost, performance gain, install difficulty, and what it's going to due to my fuel economy.

i'm all about getting more power, but i can't be driving 80 miles every day getting 12 miles to the gallon.

            thanks guys........
