because when the motor runs, a little bit of fuel goes by the rings into the oil... if u run race gas it makes the oil smell good!!!Black 1998 Pontiac Firebird A-4 swap
271.4rwhp/259.4rwtq NA
13.30@102.44
www.freewebs.com/wickedsix98

Change your oil. If your oil smells like gas change it. This is how i siezed my 3.8 motor. I didnt find out why the fuel was in the oil but there was lots of it. I had the oil analyzed. Change your oil, keep a close eye on it, if problem keeps happening fix it. I think i could have saved my 3.8 if i just changed the oil.

if the block wasnt honed properly then they might not have set correctly
did you use stock replacement rings or chromoly rings? chromoly rings are notorious for taking a long time to set up (im talking a few thousand miles) so if you have chromoly rings give it a few more miles before you worry about it-Aaron, AKA ATL2001
93 3.4L
www.ilfba.com

It was built by a reputable machine shop who builds race car engines. I think they are regular rings
I did a compression test with the motor warm and the throttle wide open all were 145-150 psi i then added oil in the plug holes and most stayed the same, some rised maybe 3-5 psi seems like my internals are fine, maybe it just needs dyno tuned

pgriffith, do you have any ideas why yours seized up?

No. I havent even bothered tearing down the block to see what exactly happend yet. my guess is she was just rode hard and washed up wet.

check your PCV system. the PCV should pull the most of the vapors out of the crankcase b4 they have a chance to get into the oil. some is to be expected. check the PCV valve and make sure u dont have a lose or missing vac line for it
