just go in, isn't there a way you can advance the timing thru the crank and timing belt? i wonder if anyone has tried this? just advance the timing like 3 or 4 degrees or so thru the belt?

The belt method is for distributor cars. We have DIS ignition systems.

The timing chain connects the cam to the crank. nah dude you don't wanna go playing with valve timing. leave it where it is, with the dots lined up... there is a BIG difference between ignition timing (what you are trying to play with) and valvetrain timing (what you would be playing with messing with timing chain/belt)
the pcm will automatically kick the timing up as much as it needs before it senses detonation, especially at low-load wide-open throttle. trying to alter ignition timing will most likely result in poorer performance if you are able to change performance at all.
as mentioned before, the pcm calculates the correct amount of ign timing advance by looking at many sensors (any load-related sensor like ckp, ect, tps, vss, maf/map...) actual ignition timing is sensed by the crank sensor (3x and 18x signals)
it does not look at cam sensor for ignition though. cam sensor is just reference for cyl 1 tdc compression for sequential fuel delivery.
