• Cylinder heads for a 3.4

I recently thought about changing the cylinder heads in my 3.4 Camaro. I came across this website that has ported and polished cylinder heads for the 3.4.
http://www.supersixmotorsports.com/
How much hp gain could i expect from aftermarket heads?
They also have a 3.4 powerpak that has heads, cam, and upper and lower intake manifolds. This is the link:
http://www.supersixmotorsports.com/P...kDataSheet.pdf
How much hp would i get if i went that route?

you really should search before you post questions like this - its been asked a dozen times.

p.s. i believe supersix has dyno sheets on their site to tout their packages.

supersix does do decent porting but their prices are pretty high. you also find that the powerpac is somewhat of a mild set up. its a good package for someone who doesnt know that much on choosing cam specs or stuff like that, but with some research and figuring out what you really want out of your car you should be able to come up with more of a gain than would be accomplished by a powerpac.hope this helps

oh yeah...abbott also does good porting work for our heads i belive its a little cheaper there

Looking at those picture, it all most looks like they broke into my house and stole my cylinder heads.

yanno. i thot about super six before i did my topend swap.

and my car (in its stock-ish form) is doing 170+ rwhp / 207+ rwtq (i dyno'd with the 3100 setup, not the 3400 setup so i dunno what thats putting out yet)

and thats with the stock cam and rksport headers and a 3" catback. no tuning.

i say stock-ish (cause i know ppl are gonna flame me) cause all the parts i used are in their "stock" - off-the-factory-shelf condition. including casting imperfections and stock valve sizes (stock for a 3.4L Grand Am GT)

the only performance parts i have on my car :
RKSport Headers
3" Flowmaster Catback
electronic cutout at the end of the i-pipe
K&N FIPK
MSD 8mm Wires

thats it. and i went from 140 rwhp / 185 rwtq -> 170 rwhp / 207 rwtq just from swapping:

heads
pistons
lower intake
fuel rail / injectors
upper plenum
throttle body
exhaust manifolds -> headers

thats it.

the mods arent that complicated, takes a little fab work and the most difficult thing is changing the pistons (which i should say i was lucky NOT to have to do myself, since i was getting my engine rebuilt. i had them use a set from a grand am (3400 pistons))

other than that, it should take about a week to do everything.

car is way more fun now tho ;)

-R

p.s. - for all of you who actually care bout engine numbers and not just rw, that means that my car went from 164hp/217tq -> 200hp/244tq -- but thats at the crankshaft not at the rear wheels. so i now have as much hp as a stock 3.8, and about 20 lb-ft more tq than a 3.8. needless to say, im happy ;)

with patence (sp??) and a porting kit you can set your heads up like super six, all they basically do is clean them up, had a set of si portflow valves and you'll be one up on them for far less money

The experience of the companies that do the head porting is so far ahead of anyone on this site. It's not as easy as just sanding the heads out with a set of valves, I promise! ;)

How do you smog that thing? Or maybe I should ask do you smog it. I'm thinking of doing that swap. I think I can get away with the top have of the motor looking different as long as it says 3400. I'll Also be running the pacesetter headers since they're legal.

you cant have it say 3400. it wont fit if you leave the 3400 on the top of the plenum. unless you have it cut into the plenum, or the motor dropped like an inch, and i dont reccomend either one of those options..

as for smogging it..well..yea. thats always a problem. Supposedly you can take your car to a referee and have it checked out to make sure it passes, provided you smog it as a kit car - or some such thing like that. i dont know EXACTLY what the technicalities in being a "kit car" are. just that CARB heard what i did and told me to put it back the way i found it.

cause they suck.
