• How will you know?

Im seriously just wondering how you know what cam will work for your car. (1996 3.8 5spd)

say you look around at some places that sell them. will it just say hey here is a 96 3.8 camaro/firebird cam that will fit.. or will it be like High Performance Cam #3724238GH or something?

and after someone explains this to me since im not fimaliar to Cam's and stuff someone post up some links to places I can look if you do not care thanks guys!

First do alot of research by reading all the posts here.

Then buy from a company that sells them for our cars...ZZP, FTPP, etc. Or order a custom grind from ones like Abbott, etc.

any web links bro?

youve read my mods.. you think it would help?

and about what as it stands now do you think this car would pull in the 1/4? Also what kinda difference would a cam and 3.73's make?

Well, I don't really know what mods you've got now. If your profile is accurate then you don't even have an exhaust yet. If that's the case, you've definitely got plenty more mods to do before you have to worry about engine stuff: exhaust, headers, shifter, gears & LSD, etc

lol my mods on in the noobie thing in the lounge.. its not many but its some!

I know I need gears. and Headers would work out nice with my exhaust but. im just afraid ill spend a big lot of money and not have nothing to show for it like I would never be able to stay on top and beat LS1's.

if you're talking about LS1s... you will will have to modify practically every component of your car to get to stock LS1 performance.

the best way to see what your car will run is to take it to the track.

um,
if you want to beat an LS1, get an LS1 car.
As RallyRed98 said...it is a big project to say the least to keep up with a 340 hp aluminum v8 in the same chassi as you have right now.

But, the L36 is very responsive to performance modifications. Fron the factory it is already approaching 1 hp per cubic inch...in old school math that is high performance already.

Once you start doing major mods you will be quite impressed.

as for links...
set this forums date to show the last month of posts. there is a group purchase for cam...not sure if it is closed yet.

If you have the money to beat an LS1 then cool. another goal which is attainable is to beat EVERY mustang...v8 or v6 on the road. Our cars launch real good too...you will beat every low torque turbo 4 cylinder off the line...to at least 1/8 mile with a couple grand put into your L36. The 4 cyl cars might be light, but it can be tough for them to compete with the stock 235 pounds off torque (stock) off the line and especialy if you crank it up to 250 or 260 pounds of torque or so.

Our venders in particular (sponsors on this board) have many detailed options for valvetrain componants and kits. Start there...you should be able to get the picture pretty easy regarding cam and valvetrain modding of the L36 F body.

Be careful with FWD stuff. Double check that it truely is compatible with your RWD car.
