• Hey 12secondv6, have some questions about the SLP rockers??

Hey, I have a few questions about the SLP rockers. I saw in a post in the Lounge that you have installed them. First off, how long did it take to install them? Were they hard to install or easy? Did you have to replace any gaskets or did you reuse the old ones? Are there any special tools that I will need for the install? I think that is most of my questions. Feel free to add any pointers or side notes to help me out. ;)

Also, do you think a person like myself could install them. I have never been inside a car motor before. Outside of the motor and other parts of the car sure, I've installed and fixed several things. But, never have I been inside of a car motor. I do have a friend however that is going to help me install them. He has a mid 80's Monte with a 305 in it. He has worked on and installed several mods in the motor several times. So, he has experience with internal engine work, just not my 3.8 fuel injected engine.

One other thing, if you could give me a list of the tools and stuff I will need for the install that would be GREAT. Also, did you change your oil after you installed them? I think that is all the questions I have. I'm sure that I'm leaving out several. So, once again, please feel free to add any helpful comments.

Also, anyone else that has experience in this field please feel free to comment. I'll take all the info I can get. ;)

Thanks for any info and help that you can give,
Jeff

I think James uses a shop for stuff like this, and this time the rockers weren't the only stuff going into the car (all at once).

You'll need your basic hand tools, torque wrench. Also a VALVE, not suspension , spring compressor.

You'll need valve cover gaskets. Kit might come with other stuff that you need.

Probably a, umm, decent "my first internal mod" for the hands and knuckles, and with a friend's help, you should be ok. No, I've never cracked 'er open, but many here have and have had great success. Just be sure and get a good impact wrench before you do a cam install.

I have yet to install them.
They look quite impressive
I will be going to my shop to have them done.
They are considered a bolt on kit but I am also adding a couple things to compliment them.
My engine is just a junk yard engine with 80,000+ miles on it.
From what I have read up on and been suggested to the springs start to weaken like normal parts.
I have 600-700+ passes on my bird, 80,000 unknown miles, countless nitroused runs and it seemed time to upgrade the springs.

I am adding LS6 springs. LS1 owners typically upgrade to these.

I will also be upgrading to titanium valve spring retainers. Costly but less weight.

If I am going to do it I want to do it right.

The added lift should pick up some power but also the weight reduction between the rockers and retainers should help.

As soon as they are installed I'll give concrete evidence on how benificial they are.

Install should be soon

You won't need to compress the valves if you're just doing the rockers.

The only reason i know is that i think those are like 2 of the 3 palces that even offer retainers for 3.8's..

that and becuase i am a james groupie..
(not really)
but you gota admit.. he has got that whole 1/4 mile thing down..

I'm just learning about this stuff.
It's sooo damn confusing!

http://www.camarov6.com/cgi-bin/ulti...&f=16&t=001391

I wanted LS6 springs and then titanium retainers

I go here:
http://www.intense-racing.com/
under heads cam valvetrain
and I think those retainers will work.

As soon as all these things are definate then I'll keep everyone updated.

Hey, thanks for all the info. Looks like I won't be able to install them this weekend. :( Have to work Saturday. So, it will probably be a few weeks before I get the chance to install them. Next weekend I'm going to the spring rod run in Pigeon Forge, TN. Maybe Easter weekend I'll be able to install them. Keep the info coming though. I appreciate all of it.
Thanks again

I amy not even have mine installed before AIS
ET streets and extra rims are a priority (I kinda have a traction issue).
It might be mid summer before they are done :(

Let me know how yours go also!!

Will do. It turned out that I got off today. But, I did not plan on installing them so I bought none of the need supplies to install them. So, I'll more than likely install them on easter weekend.

Well, it looks as of right now, I'm going to install the rockers this coming Saturday. I just need to pick up some valve gaskets tomorrow. So, me and my friend are going to install them Saturday. I was hoping to get a dyno of my car before I install them, but I kinda doubt it. I will let everyone know how the install went and what kind of difference I can feel or tell. Can't wait.
