what is the "clearance volume" (combustion chamber volume when piston is at Top dead center) of a stock 3.8 L36?

At TDC, my pistons stick up about .015" above the block deck

the head gasket is .067" so you do the math.

couldnt you just derive this value given the engine volume and the compression ratio?

3800/9.4/6 = 67 (the compression ratio is only accurate to two figures otherwise you could make a closer guess with this method).

Yeah, but the head gasket is .067", so you gotta figure out the volume in there as well as the combustion chamber itself.

THis would be easy to figure out if someone knew the dish volume of stock pistons. My diamond pistons have a 3.6cc dish.

I don't have the precision equipment to measure the dish of my junk stock pistons. I am willing to bet it is between 3.7cc and 4.0cc though.

                    Enter desktop dyno...

                    Head chamber volume 63cc
                    Head gasket bore 3.8"
                    head gasket thickness .067"
                    Head gasket volume 12.45"

                    Piston downbore @ TDC -.020"
                    Deck volume @ TDC -3.72cc
                    Piston dish.. 3.6cc?
                    Compression ratio 9.39:1
                    total combustion volume 75.33cc
                    swept cylinder volume 631.88CC

I got this from the #'s that everyone else gave me. It is ballpark, but I think it is pretty close.
