• Intense Custom PCM - Check My Selections and Give Advice..

When the tax return comes in, I'm looking at a tuned pcm with the following changes, let me know what you all think (not looking for price advice, just mean the choices I have made to change):

My car:

97 Pontiac Firebird V6 (L36) A4, 3.8
Bored 0.030 over
Custom Cold Air Intake
Pacesetter Ceramic Headers
3" Hooker Catback Exhaust

Standard PCM --
- Removed Speed Limiter
- Air/Fuel Adjustments (slightly more fuel for the timing advance they said)
- 3* Timing Advance
- Knock Retard Decay Rate Adjust
- 180* Cooling Fan Adjust
- Cooling Fans at Keyoff for 180 Seconds (maybe)
- Disable Rear O2 DTC's -- $10 extra
- Stock Shift Points ------ $10 extra

I would be running premium fuel as well then..
1997 Pontiac Firebird 3.9L

- TSP Dyno Tuned
- Bored 0.040
- ARP Rod Bolts / Head Studs
- Custom CAI
- Pacesetter Ceramic Headers / !Cat
- 3\" Catback w/SLP Firehawk Muffler
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/649312

Might want to rethink that. Go with either TSP or get your own tuner.

Yeah, they are having "issues" right now. Although I must say that I liked my intense PCM.

honestly, DONT get an INTENSE PCM. I noticed that DHP doesnt make a PCM for you guys (or am i wrong?). I think as a community it would be very beneficial to you to see if DHP could make some of you guys. They have a 5 star customer service and NEVER let people hang out to dry. With INTENSE PCMs, they hardly change anything. They just increase the timing and a little fuel. not much at all. You basically get what you pay for.

They do for us. They have the DHP tuner package for us as well already. Just came out a little while ago for our cars. There is a GP going on right now for the tuner in the sponser section here.

the changes look good..but they are all things you can do yourself with a tuner..why stock shift points/limiters?

Just saying, I have no stake in TSP.

Id stay away from the Intense time bomb. Few people have had problems with their trannys since they mess with the tranny setting but claim they dont.

Powertuner all the way. Or HPT if you have $100 extra bucks.

Well I think I might be getting a deal on a low mileage set of 3.42 gears with a limited slip so that might be my choice instead. All I should need to put them in is the install kit, reluctor gear, gears, differential, and get my PCM flashed by GM to a 97 Y87 vin right?
