  • Absolutely Nessecary to Replace V-Springs?

A cam with a lift of .50" or less, is it completely nessecary to get stiffer valve springs? I know that the VS Cam does not require any valve train modification, but it also has a LSA of 115. The cam I'm putting in is a regrind from Tom with these specs:

    212/218 .50/.50 112LS

Opinions on the use of stiffer valve springs?

To be safe, yes you should put in stiffer springs. Doesn't Tom sell modified LT1 springs to work with our cars?

I'm going to try this without using the stiffer valve springs. We'll see how it goes.

I would say get stiffer springs. ANything around or above .5 lift should use stiffer springs. The springs tom sells are COMPCAM's LS1 valvesprings. You might as well change the springs. THey are right there when you get all the valvetrain off it would be easy to do during a cam swap. Ask TOM at SSM and im sure he will recomend stiffer high rev springs.

Of course Tom is going to recommend Stiffer Valve Springs, but I don't really think that with a lift of .500" it is a must to replace them. The users of the VS Cam at ZZPerformance didn't touch the rest the V-Train and some of them are pumping out 400 HP at the wheels.
