Well I just realized I left out some important information. The day that the mechanic called and told me about the possible BHG or cracked head, I went over there after work. I needed the car because I had bought a couple tires at another shop and they were waiting on me to install them. See..I bought the tires the day before and of course I didn't know that I might have a BHG/cracked heads.

    So anyway I asked my mechanic if it's ok just to go accross town. He seemed like it might not be a good idea, but I figured the car was running ok when I brought it to him, even though the shop is only about a couple tenths of a mile from my house so the car didn't have a chance to show any signs of failure. So I end up taking the car and as I'm approaching the tire place I notice the temperature gauge going up abnormaly..getting up to about 220 or so. By the time I pulled in and turned the car off it was up to 230. I made sure to tell the guy there not to drive the car because of the problem it was having.

    So anyway, later on I picked the car up and as I got close to my mechanic, the temperature started soaring up past 230 and getting near 240 or so. I was cruisung about 40 mph and only like 1/10 of a mile away so I turned the car off and just coasted in. It seems the car went south pretty fast and that it was almost surely a BHG/ cracked head as he had told me. Also remember that the new water pump is on with this happening.

    Sorry again for not mentioning this as I've had a lot on my mind latey. It just totally went by me.

        OK...I got the car back. Everything went well. It ended up being $2100.78 and here's the rundown of where the money went:

        Labor install water pump = $112.50 pump = $49.36

        Drain/Replace motor oil + filter = 15.00

        Remove and install cylinder heads = 810.00

        Coolant = 49.36 Used Cylinder head = 241.35

        Complete valve job = 425.00 Mobil 1 oil = 29.94

        Oil filter = 5.00 Head gasket set = 241.78

        Head bolt set = 46.73 Thermostat = 8.32

        Sales Tax = 79.90 Grand total = 2100.78

        When we got there, the first thing my mechanic did was show me the cracked cylinder head...without me even asking. Damn those cylinder heads are heavy!! Anyway, I don't have a digi camara so no pictures..sorry. I could have kept it as well obviously but I have no use for a chunk of iron. :rolleyes: So the exhaust has a bit of a different tone...deeper to be exact! It sounds better than ever.

        Also..before it used to studder a bit at low rpms.....It's gone!!! smooth as silk acceleration now! :D Also..we put it on a credit card with a 5% interest so it's not like I had to come up with all that cash at once. I plan on putting $100 a month toward it, so not too bad. In the end, a lot of money, but my car should be good for a long time to come.

              I know I was skeptical about that too. But it did started leaking more heavily than I ever when I was changing the oil. So I drove it to the mechanic which is only 1/10 of a mile from my house so It didn't have time to over heat at all.

                It was a small long crack down one of the valves. I know nothing about engine's so I don't know if it was an intake or exhuast vavle. It was actually between two of the valves.

                    </font>
Well obviously they (mechanic) were the ones that found and shipped the used head for me...no work done by me. So I'm sure that's added to the cost. Besides it's had a complete valve job done anyway so it's like new. Also that new head you found probably doesn't include shipping fees. Those heads are HEAVY too.

                    Well, I don't know what kind of gaskets they used so I guess they probably used factory replacement gaskets, which are obviously probably more $ than an aftermarket product from Intense Racing or whatever.. Anyway, I'm just happy to have the car back and it's running very well. I haven't got on it too hard yet because they said to take it easy for awhile, which of course now I'm paranoid about **** going wrong with my car so I probably won't ever take it above 4000 rpm's ever again! well..maybe I will eventually :D

                            shipping from gmpartsdirect is ridiculous... i speak from first hand experience. $32 for 12 pushrods? please!

                            and i too have been following your saga... glad to see things are back together.

                                Well...the saga continues. I now have an SES light on. And after light driving for only 10-15 minutes in 80-85 degree temps, the car went up to 210 after sitting for only a couple minutes. :mad: The car seems to be still running smoothly however, but I'm not liking this temperature increase at all. Brand new thermostat and all... Taking it back to the mechanic tommorow morning hope I can get this heap of **** running right. :rolleyes:
