It is normal for our cars to go up to 210 while sitting and go back down to 180 while driving. The fan doesn't kick in while idle until 210.

As for the SES... autozone to the rescue. ;)

Well, I disagree. I mean, my car hardly ever went past 195 even after quite a bit of driving and then sitting idle. I mean, I was really driving slow for only 15 minutes. Then I went through the In-N-out drive through whcih there were only a couple cars in line. And there goes the damn temp...up up up to 210. When I started driving it went back down to 180 or so. Byut I just payed 2100+ on this damn car I don't want the tempereature going up to 210 like that after only driving for 15 minutes.

And screw autozone I'm taking it back to the mechanic in like..half an hour. He "quarantees" all his work so he better not charge me **** and he better get this thing right. I'm so fed up with this car right about now.

check your coolant level for one... dex is kind of weird especially when you first put it in. the car CAN get up to 210, but like you, my car never rose above 180-190 until recently... and there were only 2 gallons of coolant in it.

Just some FYI... those temps are perfectly normal. Also, here are the factory on/off settings for the fans.

Low speed fans on/off at: 227°F/218F°
High speed fans on/off at: 235°F/228F°

GOD..you are the second person accusing me of not paying attention to my temp gauge. fyi I WATCH THE DAMN THING LIKE A HAWK. I hardly drive the car though and most of my trips are short trips with light driving. No heavy stop and go traffic... The damn thing is a garage queen  ...So anyway I started it up let it warm up for a minute or 2...drive slowly for like 5 miles then stop and the temp goes up to 210? That ain't right. The temp outside wasn't blazing either it was like 80 or less. Maybe the temp going up to 210 is normal after quite a bit of driving and then sitting for an extended period of time...but this wasn't right..also remember my SES light was on ever since I started the car. It's at the shop right now Still haven't got a word bac kas he semed real busy this morning..he said he'll squeeze it in today. We'll see.... :(

Well I haven't checked any of the fluid levels becasue my mechanic said he topped them all off. I just got the car back a few days ago I'd hoped for ****s sake that **** was fine...

You must not watch the gauge that closely, our you would have never cracked the head.

you can consume some when you first add it, especially when the level was way down. just give it a check... dex isn't that expensive.

I'm thinking they knew what the hell they were doing when they designed the engine and all the engine controls (PCM).

I agree with AZ3.8Camaro... the engine temps are not too hot until you hit the red in the gauge and that's approx. 250ºF.

anyway I started it up let it warm up for a minute or 2...drive slowly for like 5 miles then stop and the temp goes up to 210? That ain't right.
That is perfectly normal.

I'm not very mechanically inclined with cars.
I think it's time you educate yourself a little more before calling the GM engineers "dumbasses" and telling folks around here to take a hike. Many of these folks around here are a helluva lot more mechanically & technically inclided than you so why are you so closed minded with these folks' responses!? 210ºF operating temp is perfectly normal and if you cannot accept that, go buy a freakin' electric car. Then you won't have to worry about cracked heads or gas prices!
