The only time I got all freaked is when people made false accusations like "Oh your just a dumbass you didn't watch your temp and that's why the heads cracked" blah balh blah out the *** type of crap like that. Also people saying. "Oh, you should just do it yourself it's so easy....RIGHT real easy..not. Everyone likes to talk like they ****ing know everything when infact they probably **** it up even worse and end up taking it to a mechanic anyway to fix their bonehead mistakes. Whereas I'm up front and honest..admitting I can't do this type of fix.

Of course people like me are prone to bashing, but oh well. LIKE I SAID I wish to leave this thread alone...hell I was even man enough to say I apologize for the arguments....but knowone listens....and so i have to keep standing up for myself.

So 400,000 km = 250,000 miles...damn that's a lot lot of miles. But I was thinking, Canada is MUCH cooler than Cali so right there is a big advantage to the longeveity of these cars in such a climate.

                  • check any parts catalog (napaonline, advance auto et al) -- the v6 firebird is listed to get a 195F thermostat.

the owner's manual (that lists 180) is a misprint (or rather v8 specific really).

actually since you didnt put the coolant into the engine you probably have no idea of the mixture ratio. 50/50 is typical but a little more water would get better heat transfer.

what thermostat do you have? the engine was torn down, if it was me doing the work i would throw in a new thermostat just because i have it drained. did you get a new thermostat at 195?

and lastly the gage on your dash is not the most accurate instrument ever made.

</font>[/QUOTE]Ya it's a new 195 thermo. And I realize the gauge in the dash isn't totally accurate.

                          • Just a couple things to point out.. the gauge you see next to your speedo is incredibly inaccurate. The only true way to see temp. and temp. changes is to have an exact device (forget the name of it). That tells you the temp.. why do you think the needle is always in the middle.. it moves and eighth of an inch for a 30 degree temp. change! Don't worry about that it's cool

And btw.. with the cold weather, ice, salt on the streets up in canada.. i have no doubt that it's much harder on the engine than it is here..

                            • Well ...my temp guage is definately not always in the middle. I have a 97 and I think that you guys saying that the temp always being 210 have the "dummy gauge" I've been raeding about. I guess GM customers were worried about the temp gauge fluctuating so much that they installed one that just stays put at 210? It makes sense since you have a 99, but I thought they only did this on the V8's.

Also, my car is originally from Los Angeles and 73,000 were put on it in 3-4 years. Also it's very HOT and smoggy with lots of traffic. MUCH worse condition's for this car imo....And if you think about it, it prolly had overheated atleast a few times adding to the early departure of my head gaskets/ cracked head.

                              • ah yeah.. The L.A. thing is true.. I wonder what's worse.. could weather with snow and salt.. or hot stop and go L.A. driving.. shiit both can't be good!
