Ya, and add to that that the car was leased by the original owner...So he probably beat on it and didn't keep up with maintenence. Too bad I found out all this stuff AFTER I bought the car...LOL
Lol you wouldn't be relaxed if you were in my position. Pay $2100 have the check engine light go on for the first time ever..get it fixed supposedly. Then have the light go back on a few weeks later. It's enough to make you go loony!!!
I say get a new 3.8 engine, go to a local yard, scoop one up with decent milage. Then, personally, I would drive your car over to your mechanics garage followed by whatever transport is carrying the new engine. Just tell him you just spent $2100 for the check engine light to come on and you would like that new engine to go in awfully quick. I'm sorry to hear of all your bs to go through. Honestly man, the swap will be alot easier and remove all your probs. Just be sure you tell em to mix the coolant right :D . Good luck. -B

I don't know what code it is throwing. I'm beginning to not trust this mechanic though so I'm thinking of going to Autozone later today. When the SES came on a few days after I got the car back, he said that the code was a misfire in cylinder 1, and said that the SES then went out by itself. He replaced the plug wire and everything seemed ok. But after a week or 2 I noticed the car kinda chugging at idle..sounds kinda like it's cammed..lol But overall the car was driving great and all the gauges seemed fine.
Another thing that has been bothering me is this rattle coming from somewhere towards the front of the car, which I think might be a bad cat or something of the nature. The rattle (sounds like metal banging metal) usually happens up upon acceleration. Also, both time the SES came on it stayed on solid, which I take it means that it's an emissions control issue? What could that all include?
here is my 2 cents worth: I would have put a new radiator in and a lower thermostat 160 or 170 because of all the problems with the overheating and the different coolants used. But what really bothered me was that no one told you about the damage that was being done to your rod bearings and main bearings. Once the oil got contaminated, you are going to have a bearing failure soon. I would have replaced the bearings while all the head work was being done. You could have got a engine overhaual kit from any parts store, with all the needed gaskets and bearings. I would also have considered putting in new rings also, with the mileage the car has on it, might as well have rebuildt it. ( I know you just started out thinking it was maybe a blown head gasket). But when you have such a problem as that, it is wise to consider all the ppossible damage that results from heat and contamination.
Hmm well I'm taken the car back AGAIN to the mechanic on Tuesday because I have an SES light on. I think it's something to do with my exhaust though as it's making funny noises. He never mentioned anything to me about the bearings and rings etc. When my dad and I changed the oil the day before we took it to the mechanic in the first place, there were no signs whatsoever of coolant in the oil. So I think that we just caught everything in the nick of time before it got bad..i.e contaminated oil. I hardly drive the car as well..It's not a daily driver. In the past 3+ years I've put about 13,000 or so on it. But I'm gonna ask the mechanic about the bearings and stuff anyway. Thanks for mentioning it.

Just ordered some Toyo 315/35/17 tires for my 17x11 rims. Hopefully I can get them on the beginning of next year. Will post pics.
