11.0 to 1 or 12.0 to 1 will be difficult to get to run on pump gas..Just an FYI

ohh and when running high compression whats the best cam out there? and i still wanna be able to depend on the car when i need to. its not my daily driver (i got a 91 storm for that and dont knock that car its got a tank for an engine i just kant kill it) and i wanna get like 350 hp out of the firebird so i dont think that this is a pipe dream, but i wanna get like 25 mpg on the highway i get like close to 30 now. and does anyone know where to get dual coil valve springs?? im kindda trying to bullet proof the engine..
and thanks again

Look at the Intense Racing site. They have a stage 2 N/A cam that is a beast cam. 220/224 .337/.321 lobe lifts .539/.523 valve lifts with 1.60:1 Rockers 112 lsa 108 ic

well thanks for that piece of advice and i do think i found some springs from gm but they only rate them at 105 instead of 130 and like i said BULLET PROOF. so 105 just dont cut it. if you can get more people to help that would be cool. the more opinions the better. so im just saying i want as much advice as possible. has any one done 11 or 12:1 in a 3800 yet?

I have 11:1. I run 91 octane always!!! I have my ignition timing retarded 2 degrees right now to make absolutely sure nothing would cause detonation while the engine was still breaking in. It only has about 1400 miles on it right now. I will advance it when I go to the track in the next couple of weeks.
I achieved that compression with two tricks. First off, I bought some 3.6cc dished forged pistons from 3800performance. I also have new L32 GTP rods. I got the dished pistons because they were available asap, whereas all other pistons had a 5 week lead time to have them custom forged. No one stocks 3800 pistons except 3800 performance and intense racing. I might switch to a turbo setup next year, so the dish gives me some room to work with boost in the future.
The big compression booster is... milling the cylinder heads. I had them milled .030". That was key. For full race applications, our heads can be milled up to .040", but I am daily driving the brute, so I didn't want to flirt with cracking cyl. heads.
People often think of decking the block when they want to raise CR. Do not do this. The 3.8L has a negative down bore @TDC. Mine does at least. My pistons stick out of the top of the block about .020" @TDC. If you deck the block any appreciable amount, your pistons will become one with your cyl. heads. Not cool.
To achieve 12:1, get some flat top pistons and mill the heads .030". Desktop dyno says that will give you a 12.14:1. ANy more than that and you will need to run methanol.

well i know that ftpp has domed pistons and i dont mind waiting so thanks and i think i will mill the heads but only .015" i want to leave some room for problems.

I just checked, and I have 105Lb comp valve springs. THey are good to .600" lift. You won't find a cam out there with that much lift for our little v6. You could have one custom ground, but you don't need that much lift unless you are shoving in 40lbs of turbo boost at 10,000rpm.
I just finished installing a forged double roller timing set. My comp springs and big cam were too much for the wimpy stock timing set and the tensioner broke. It was a mess to clean up. I don't know whether to recomend a new timing set or not. I think I am the only person in the world to break one.
As far as cams are concerned...
I have the comp 200/206 duration cam. It only has .498/.480 lift. It is very streetable, and gives me an edge over other v6's, but it is not near what I hoped for. For stock head ports, I would recomend the GT2 from ZZP. It is bigger than mine and seppo runs 13's with it and a couple other nickel mods.
If you are gonna get port work done, get a huge cam. Look at the cam profile page in the tech section and see what those guys have.
