• Need help finding a cam

I don't have any idea what kind of cam or size or anything to put in my car, nor do I know what to look for. I'm knew at trying to fix my car up. I got a 96 3.8 camaro with SLP Loudmouth Exhaust on the way and soon to be an SLP Cold Air Intake. I am basically getting my list down of mods to make to my car and I know that I am going to need a cam for higher performance. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks.

Research, Research, Research.

Don't ever choose the first thing you pick, know why you chose it and weigh the cons and pros of everything. Cams are a BIG step and if you don't know what to pick you're better off leaving it alone until you can research exactly what you're changing it to.

The search function on this board is invaluable, and the people who have been here for a very long time generally know their stuff well. Email people and ask questions, but don't ask things like "My car is slow, will blah make it faster?"

Throwing $$ at the problem means you likely don't understand it. Rather than ask the question above, ask something more specific like "Even though I'm pulling 2.0 60' times at the track and I'm finally in the 14's, why is my trap speed still only 89MPH? Is there anything I can do to increase my trap speed?"

Another example:
Bad = "Are these LCAs good?"
Good = "I currently autocross my car and I'm looking for an inexpensive set of lower control arms. I was considering a set of rod-ended ones but I hear people complain about the noise and cost of them so I've been thinking about going with BMR poly/poly non adjustable units. Would the BMRs be okay for my application?"

I hope that helps and welcome to the board. I think you need to state your mods on a homepage or in your sig if possible so we know what to tell you. As far as cams go, you should likely leave well enough alone until you understand them better www.google.com and www.howstuffworks.com are good assets, even I still use them to death. Goodluck.
