  • i dont think this has been asked before

ok since i have a 96 its obvious i cant just swap in a 99 and up 3.8 motor without some crap being done.

what im wondering is.. what if i buy a 00 junkyard 3.8 and put my 96 throttle body on it, along with my 96 pcm?

im not too sure about electronics and whatnot? isnt that the only thing they changed on the 99 and up 3.8's, the drive by wire throttle body?

    correct me if im wrong.

    will this work?>

If your 96 throttle body will bolt up, then its perfectly doable.

I just don't know what the gains would be, it any.

You could use the 2000 motor with the 96 intake plenum and throttle body if you need too. There isn't really any difference in the years except the exhaust and intake setup.

the only reason why im asking is because my friend is going to give me his junk motor out of his 2000 camaro.

it only has about 15k miles, and he is giving me a hell of a deal since i know him very well.

im gonna build it up and then put it in my car..IF this idea works

Worst case senario, just use the swap the intake plenum and throttle body.

Best case scenario, just swap the throttle body. (don't think you can)

You can use your 96 pcm, if you swap over the TB.

96 throttle body will not fit on a 99. You would probably have to swap the upper intake manifold also, but I don't know if that'll fit or not.

It will, if not swap the upper and lower manifolds.
Head and block are the same. I am 99% sure the intake manifold is too. The plenum is not.

Yes get the 98+ exhasut manifolds at the least, there more like headers than an old exhaust manifold.
