  • lower temp thermo...KR??

This is puzzling me. It's happened in both my camaro and John D's GTP. Knock started after we put 180* thermostats in. see about 5* of KR on my engine, and upwards of 7.5 on his. It's not like the cars are being hurt...i can still clock a 15.0, he can run 14.6 and trap at 94 on a warm night, and yet KR still shows up. After listening for knock we couldn't hear anything, it's puzzling me. coudl harmonics be a possibility as well? as far as the noise from the new cold air induction?
autotap logs of mine and his are available if they need be. I will swap out my 180 to the stock 195 if anyone thinks it's necessary to maybe compare numbers

well, i'll give my .02 cents (even though i JUST gave it to you on IM) BUT i'd say go with the highest octane you can get your hands on. if that does the trick, move down to the next grade. if it works, then keep going down until you find the lowest that works with your setup and give no knock.

that's the cheaper way AND not too mention the 3800II is made for 87 octane, so the lower, i'm sure the better for the longevity of the engine and so forth.

well, my .02 cents. not an advanced tech genious here, but i'm tryin!

Any chance your KR is just from the hotter air temps?? The hotter the day, the easier it is to get KR.

ALso, a cooler engine will detonate less.. 160 thermo should help you prevent knock.

Perhaps you have bad gas as well? What octain you running?
