My bird is getting some miles on her and I just had a friend smash his 99 bird into a tree(drunk driving is bad news). Well my question is how much work would it be to switch the two engines, seeing how his is a 5-Speed and mine is an automatic, his is a 99, and mine is a 96. He also has the Y-87 performance package what kind of work does that entale me to do.

not a really technical question.. its a direct swap..
drop both motors/trannys
unbolt trannys
switch...
reinstall..
y87 makes no difference..
only thing i can think of that may be a little differenct is some of the weatherpack connectors for some of the sensors / electronics.. but.. you shuld be able to handle that.. considering you have a doner car right there..

if you got his wring harnes and gas pedal stuff and PCM then steal his rear end for the 3.42 and disk brakes should be a good upgradewww.turbov6camaro.com

Yeah those were my sentaments exactly, my saving grace is he didn't have full coverage, so now it's just an undrivable car sitting in his driveway. Those disk brakes...I suppose I could steal the lines and linkage and all. That would be much easier than ripping out my drums and buying a disk brake kit. I'll keep you all up to speed on what happens

I don't think your body wiring harness is going to mate up to the '99. So you'll probably have to do some rewiring if you upgrade the pcm and engine harness. Look over the wiring pinouts on this site and see what you think will be involved.
You will need a manual pcm if you switch over to a manual transmission. The easiest swap would be to find a '96 manual pcm. Then no rewiring.... Just keep your angled intake and cable throttle body.\'98 A4 Camaro v6->v8 conversion, and STS kit next
v6: 13.6 Powerdyne, 13.2 150 shot, 13.8 120 shot, 14.3 85 shot, 15.7 stock
v8(na): 12.18@113, 392rwhp
Moderator on www.mtfba.org and www.frrax.com (Road Race & Autocross)
Car pics, TN Region SCCA

I have a 2000 motor in my '95 1/2 (as can be seen in my sig). I don't know about the tranny part, but I left in all my wiring stock because I didn't want problems with CA emissions. All I switched was the upper intake and TB, knock sensors, exhaust manifolds, coolant temp sensor, and fuel rail w/injectors(it was easier than just the injectors). Everything else is plug and play.95 Camaro 3.8L Y2K motor
www.cardomain.com/id/coriya71
