I think after tax/shipping my DIS was $350, CIUs came out to be like $90, and I just got the MSD wires and coils and that was $220 after tax and shipping.
You don't need the coils for it to work.
You can get the DIS and the CIUs and you will be fine... I ran mine like that for over a year I think with no problems.
I'll say right now I see zero change with a 180deg thermo lol. Let alone a horsepower increase.

I'm planning on keeping the MSD and installing it. Install hasn't gone down yet because my mechanic got sent the wrong coils. get got blaster coils, not coil packs. he went down to L.A. yesterday to oder the right parts and to deal w/ the mess.
new timeframe will be tuesday or wednesday next week for the install.
ZZP supposedly shipped out my WP, 160* thermo, and TB spacer 2day. when they come I will also port out the front of my tb where the maf screen used to sit against.

Well.....it's in. It took 6 hours to do it, but it's in.
Some comments. First, the wiring diagrams in the modifications section are old. the coil induction units use different colored wires than the nones in the diagram. The best thing to do, if you ever get this, is to use the instructions that come w/ the coil induction units, NOT the one's that come from this site and NOT the one's that come w/ the DIS-4 itself. They both confuse the crap out of u. u can, however, use the one's off the site as a reference against the one's w/ the CIU's, but don't use them as the main source of info for the install.
Next, you must take out the entire assembly which holds the coil packs on the motor, including the base plate and the bar that holds it to the heads. otherwise, you will not get it back in. spark plug wire changes will be a pain in the ***, since the whole assembly will have to come out for them to be changed.
The good things I've noticed. I seem to be getting better gas mileage since the fuel gauge is moving towards empty slower than it did, and yes, i am still driving like I used to. Idle is a lot smoother, and acceleration feels smoother. I can't really feel if I'm making any mroe power, but at my current level of modification, I doubt I will be able to notice a 10-20 rwhp difference very easily. I think this mod will be a worthwhile one for those w/ all basic bolt-on's done. adding wires and plugs will probly be even better.

I can gaurantee you with absolute 100% certainty and will put my name on the line that what you are feeling from the MSD DIS-4 on the 3.8 is purely in your mind (IF your existing ICM/Coils/Wires/Plugs were functioning up to par).
The MSD does exactly what the 3.8 ignition does from the factory. 3.8 is already a waste spark system.
I really strongly advice any 3.8 from doing a MSD DIS-4.. Trust me, you ARE wasiting your time/$$$.
Take my word for it or not, I have done extensive testing on the DIS-4 when I had the 3.8 and found it to do absolutely nothing better than what the stock ignition setup can do.
Artic, do some track testing and post your results. Please do not lead others astray into purchasing the DIS-4. It's a very expensive mod and very time involved. I would hate to see others put the time/$$$ in only to realize we have great waste spark systems from the factory.

Tiago, 3.8's use the same ICM as 3.4's? I also thoguht 3.8's came with different coils from the factory than 3.4's.
I think saying it will benafit boosted motors is misleading. Many grand national people switch to the 3.8 series II IGN system w/o a DIS-4 for better IGN systems. They seem to be doing pretty well.
