• Car Misfiring...

So the other day out of the clear blue the car starts misfiring, and I go on about my way. Like it was really bad...So I finally take a look under the hood and see what I think is a melted wire...

So I get some new plugs and wires and change them. When I get to the wire that was "melted" it wasnt. It was a peice of rubber that had melted. It was actually wire loom.

So anyways I change the plugs and wires and it finally goes away. Well I thought it did. It went away for appox. 30 minutes then it started back up misfiring. Cylinder 6 Misfire, so I climb under the car and change the plug, it looks fouled. It seemed to have a dark substance around the electrode. So I changed it and I will be goddamned if it didnt start it up again after 30 minutes!

I havent got back under the car to check it yet, but I need to know what could be causing this? A guy I know said I should do a compression check as he knows Ive used tons of nitrous in the previous years as well as boost.

Im really hoping I havent dropped a Cylinder

Anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be?

Compression check should be your very first move.

If you know someone with a tech 2 scanner at a dealer, find out of its the 3 & 6 coil pack misfiring.

If it is, I would lean towards a bad 3/6 coil pack since you said #6 was the problem.

Well while I havent found the problem out, I did notice that my 6 Coil metal rod was rusted over....But would that cause my plug to become fubar or was it the misfiring that caused that?

along with the compression check you can also try switching the coil packs around. see if the misfire follows a certain coil pack.

if a plug is being fed by a bad or intermitent coil pack then it may foul sooner and get all messed up because of the unburnt fuel, etc.

Heh, shouldn't jump to such drastic conclusions as the compression. I would switch around the coil pack like grayman said. That should be your best bet.
