  • supersix or straight up cam swap?

i was planning on purchasing the powerpak but now im hearing all this about its not worth it and a cam swap would be just as effective. what do u guys suggest i do? powerpak or a cam and maybe a valvetrain rebuild?

If you want all out NA performance you'll need a set of heads.

If you just want some more power at a more affordable price, than a cam only may be what you want.

A cam without no headwork would be worthless to me , but thats my opinion. The supersix powerpack with heads/cam/intakes would definetly give you a more hp gain.

tell me what other mod besides a nitrous kit will give you 20-30 hp for 3-400 dollars

NOTHING not a thing hell a converter cost more money then a cam swap and most people dont understand how easy a cam swap is

actlly unless your gonna get a big ol cam with lift above .500 then then there is no reason really to get p&p heads if your just looking to pick up 20-30 hp not everyone wants a race car.

if you do a heads and cam install it will cost you over 1K easy

            300 cam
            150 spring
            retainers
            bolts and gaskets 150 - 200
p&p heads 200 or so if you do them your self and get a 3 angle valave job done on them or 800 if you dont wanna bother with heads

hrmmmm and if you put a big cam in you gotta get you pcm programed or its not really worth it and if you have an auto then a converter it adds up fast

a simple GT cam is good for at min 20 hp should put an auto even in the 200 rwhp range

hell ironman24 installed a pussy little reground cam and layed down 220 n/a rwhp with his manual so to say a cam is not worth it is BS iromans cam is a weak cam with not even .450 lift you can go to .500 on stock heads before it really tapers off

in that case, would getting the heads with the 3 angle valve job from supersix, not touch the manifolds and get a fairly larger cam from some other vendor be a decently good approach? or should i do it all thru Tom

Damn, I really didnt know that, ive alway thought on not too big cams .You can probly say I dont have the biggest cam in the world(powermax 2030 204/214 109 LSA .451/.451 lift with 1.6 gold series rockers) but hoping I can get some pretty good power out of it . I always guessed my cam would only produce 15 hp at most but what would you think?

where are you guys getting 300 for a cam? is that cam and install, or just cam, im looking into a cam and ammp has them for like $180, and the cheepest cam install i have found is like 500 so if that the 300 is for both, i want to see where you guys are getting your work done at

I didnt say anything about a cam being 300 dollars.Your cam is about a right price from what ive seen.Oh and 500 dollars is about right for a cam install.

The way im going is not through Tom but dont get me wrong,Tom knows excactly what he's doing and what he talks about.Im going a much cheaper route to a mechanic I know that owns half of a machine shop and also knows excactly what he's doing .Im having my heads ported with a 3 angle valve job with my intakes ported and polished as the same with my throttle body , and he's also installing a cam. He's installing much more but its just a long list and I dont feel like typing it all out.

what cam can you put in and still pass emmissions test? i was thinking of just putting the intese 1.9 rocker arms on to increase the lift of the stock cam. but it is more expensive $350 than a cam but it is easier to install. what is better to do for power and emmissions i need to drive the car so i dont want to have any probs. thans.

                          morons,
why dont you listen to magnus? you need head work! or just be lazy and cheap and just get the cam.

ok, figure a good Tc for about 450, and install for about 400. a cam will usually require springs as well, so about 300 for a comp cam, and 150 for springs. plus u need gaskets for 150, and labor for about 400 as well. heads from super six are 500, plus about 200 for the intakes, and labor is about 200.

                            Totals:
                            TC: 850
                            Cam: 1000
                            Heads/Intakes: 900

cam will get u the most hp, heads will get u set for an even bigger cam in the future, and TC is off the subject, but somebody else mentioned it earlier.

Couldn't you just buy part of the powerpack (heads/intake) and then buy a custom grind comp cam or something?? I'm not expert by any means, but I know there are some ssm heads for sale in the for sale section (there were a little while ago though, they could still be there) and then buy a nice custom cam? Is the question more of what's the best way to go for more N/A power with money as no object, or what is the best bang for the buck engine mod?
