  • Is it worth it? Mods on an older car.

    I guess my main question is, my 98 camaro has an open diff with over 100,000 miles, I would like to know if it's even worth it with so many miles? Have you heard of any engines lasting much longer? I would like to put in the GT cam because I've heard good things about it (unless you have some other advise) and I know I would have to put new springs in with it, plus LSD to put it to the ground. I've done my research, I just need to find a shop here in Memphis to go to and to decide if I want to put that much money into a car with that many miles. What do you think?     Rebuild it. An engine will last as long as you want it too as long as you take care of it and replace what's needed. Once you decide what you really want out of it then build it how you want it.

      Mine has 135,000 on it, and Im still modding it. Runs pretty good. I will rebuild it though, when I am going to do something big like a cam.

              ah crap press add reply by mistake. Honestly if you calculate the labor charges of each item you add on it will come to about the same thing in the long run. So i would say LS1 is the way to go.Not unless you do the mods on your own.

                  I've got over 150,000 miles on my 96. Seems to run about an average track time compared to the other 3.23 open differentials.

                      my 3.4 had 200 k ran strong untill the timing chain pooped

                        My 3.8 with 250,000 miles.
                        15.9 @ 86mph.
                        Thats at 1600ft.
                        Cold out that day, about 40*F
                        That, paired along with a new starting line (no rubber laid down) goes for lots of wheel spin.

                        If it was always maintained correctly (not just when u had it) I see no reason as to why it shouldn't last a lot longer.
