  • For those of you that have pulled a 3.8:

Alright guys, the time is here, its time to put my engnine back in. I pulled my engine through the top (Hood removed) and had a hell of a time. I ended up pulling the upper intake to make more clearance.

Anyways. I'm hoping to put the engine back in, through the top, complete. Can it be done?

Second, has anyone put the engine and tranny back in, as one? I pulled them seperate, but I was hoping to be able to put them back in as one unit.

    Any pointers would be great!

    Thanks!

It's easier through the bottom... It can be done though I know a guy with an LT-1 that did it, so you should be fine..

the guy i knew had an LT1 and he would put the whole engine/tranny combo in at one time, he would angle the tranny down in and the motor would follow, im not sure what all he pulled out though to make that work and how high the car was jacked up.....

I just tried for the last hour. Its fine up until the oil pan gets to the cross member. It gets stuck there. The oil pan hits the cross member and the intake hits the cowl. I think I'll remove the upper intake, I think that will get me enough room.

Any other ideas before I do it this weekend?

yes remove intake and you should be fine and you can install it with the trans on it. It might be a little weird having the engin above your heads but it will work. Take your time and dont but your hand between the engin or anything else. You can use some thick chain and bolt to to your heads (the front and back of your heads have some spots you can put bolts in to hold the chain. Slacker69 should have some pictures we did it on his car. I think the cherry picker had to go all the way up with the egin to get it high enough. Also the cherrry picker will get reaaaall close to the front bumber you probably will need to put something between the bumber and cherry picker so you dont scratch your bumber.

also when you get it mostly in put a jack under the trans to help get it in. It would be good to have a couple people helping you.

Everything he said, you will need to lift the tranny over the front of the hood, but seeing as you already had it in there for the most part, you know that. Floor jack under the tranny once it gets close to the ground helps a lot too. Good luck and watch out for your fingers.

Radiator and A/C are removed. Yep, had to lift the tranny over the bumper. Yep, lift gets real close to the bumper. In fact, it hits it and we have to swing the engine forward after that yet. Yep, had the floor jack ready for tranny already.

Looks like I had pretty much got everything thought of, its just a matter of getting the damn thing in there.

Hooking up all the sensors and getting all the wires routed is going to be a pain in the *** though :(

Care to go into more detail? I just don't see how it could be done. Unless I'm just missing something.... Did he put it back in complete like that? I just don't understand how it would fit.

I wasnt able to get it in through the top without taking off the upper intake manifold. dont worry about pulling the lower intake, just the upper.

Yep Yep. I know that. I'll let you guys know how it goes tomm. I'm going to run out and get a bunch of new wire loom so I can put all new stuff in when the engine goes back in.

What I did was unbolt the k-member and drop it down enough to allow youto move the engine forward and pull it out/drop it in. Click on my sig page 2 and see it coming out with the intake intack.

Did you have to unhook brake lines and stuff too then?
