i had a broken valve guide. that is not reliable, even if my car did run. it is my opinion and i am backed up with what i have seen with my own car, slacker69, pgriffith, royce lugo, and a few more other peopls cars, that when you tear into our 3800s, our cars soon turn to caca.

again, am i the only one who sees this?

i know i am coming off as a big crybaby bliggida about heavily modded V6s, but i cant understand why i am the only one who has seen it this way. slacker is so blind about the whole V6 thing that it has caused him to buy a new V6 motor. i too was in that same postion, instead i said enough with the troubles and lets do another mod in another direction - so i swapped in the LS1. i too was like you hard core V6 want to break record people. but failure after failure, i knew i was never going to win. but now, i can run 13s all day long. redbird00 is my friend, and he is dead set on kicking azz in his V6. i wish him well, but i will never stop telling him that i think a swap would be 100% safer.
i feel like i have been there and i dont want other people to lose out like i did. but it seems every body is blind to what i am seeing. where are all the greats now?

Ill help out. Everyone can express their opinions about v6 v. v8, but once you actually get behind the wheel of an LS1 your mind changes real fast. Granted I loved my bird, I forgot about it real quick once I drove my new car. I have few boltons and im in the 12's on street tires. Once I put long tubes and a cam, Ill have almost 400 HP to the wheels. I get 20 MPG right now, and still have my factory waranty. Im 21, in college, and am paying under $2000 a year on insurance, and my loan payment is probably less than some of yours. Bottom line, wait until your insurance drops and trade, or sell your car and put a big down payment on an LS1 powered F body, they are getting scarce. That is unless you are just hell bent on pushing all the power you can squeeze out of your 3.8. Im not bashing that because I have tried it, and passed my parts onto someone who will complete the job.

Sell my car!? No way dude. I put to much work, time and investment on it to just sell or trade it and to see someone else not show respect and pride in it as I do.

LS1 are not getting scarce, just check the ads. There are more LS1's for sale than there is V6. Eventhough V6 out sold it. Only handful of us enjoys performance but the majority of the people are selling it because it is not a practical car for daily drive. I've heard more disatifaction than satifaction from LS1.

If I do buy a V8 it won't be an LS1, it will be an LT5 or ZR1, just like my uncle's. Now that's scarce and way faster. And most of all, I'm keeping my V6 forever.

i havent dove into my car enough to call it heavy modded... yet, im still learning what i need to, but Tiago is right. i bought a 5 year old v6. 4 more years paying for it. then its going into the garage and im buying a 5 or 6 year old LS1 to invest some time and fun into.

tiago, is your car really reliable? tell the truth.
and is your car head/cammed? cause i wast even icluding FI/sprayed/or turboed into my mix. that is another story all together. and tiago, with kris right there in your back yard, you should be backing me up.

and for you guys keeping your V6s forever.....thats ridiculus. its just a car! granted i have kept cars longer than i have kept some wives, but hell its just a car.

kris' car was a mess and only now has it been sorted out, we'll see how it turns out.

my car IS reliable, its my only form of transportation and I treat it bad everyday for the past year turboed. Has never broken down on me or anything liek that. I consider that reliable.

heads/cammed?
FI/turbo was never our argument here. my argument is heads/cammed cars for some reason like to take dumps. and i wish kris the best of luck. i am sure with you 2 together that will be a beast of a car. but then again, this is professional grade mechanics, what about the rest of us.

I have heads and upgraded valvetrain components, but stock cam still.

If done correctly there is no reason as to why a decent cam would reduce reliability.

i agree!

so what has happened to all of us that are experiencing problems. i guess we all are doing it wrong. case in point...LS1 swap is 300 horses no problem. i guess i kinda took this thread to a tangent, but i will leave it as this. LS1 swap = 300 HP PERIOD

to those who wish to SC/turbo, i wish you the best of luck. i hope all of you can have the experience tiago has had. and to kris and all those others (john d) who plan on building monster V6s, i wish you all the best of luck. as for me, i am out of the camaro business as this will be my last post. but if i was to say i wanted to be remembered for anything, it might just be this:
i spent thousands of dollars trying to make my 3800 original and fast as hell, and how did i do it after all was said and done......an LS1 swap.
thanks for the good times you guys.

Funny you say that Tiago, I was gonna get an LS1 (Z28) commuter car!!
Anyway, it's all pot-luck with GM cars. You could get a good one or a bad one. My car's been nothing but GOOD to me.
