i dissagree. they add up just the same - mods for a 6 or 8, but mods for an 8 will net you more than the same mod for a 6. the more HP you have to use, the more you will get out of it.
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.
Im not sure how the numbers add up here, but if you take your Camaro to the strip, then an 8 would be practical would it not? Much more powerful, much more potential.
If you are like me and don't travel to the strip often, but want a great car for the road, a few mods on a 6 should be perfect shouldn't it?
A v6 is already 200 stock, more than many v8s of old, and has a hell of a lot more swat to it then your avg car out there....so turn some heads with your six, n its still better than any rice.
In the end I think it's relative to what your doing, if your gonna race...drop in an 8, if your not racing often or at all, stick with a 6 and put in enough performance to get the excitement you want on the road.

Lets break down the price:
Mod - V8 Price - V6 Price
Headers - $800 - $450
Engine - $1800 - $450
Cam - $400 - $300
Transmission - $600 - $300
Rear End - $1800 - not needed
Built Trans - $1300 - not needed

agreed, but
my LS1 pacesetter headers coated w/y pipe = $500
my V6 headers = $someone remind me
my available LS1 p&p = $2,200
my SSM power pack = $2,000
you got me on the rear end and tranny, but
$LS1 airlid = $V6 airlid
$LS1 FTRA = $V6 FTRA
torque converters are similar in $$
drag radials are the same $$
exhaust is the same $$
gears are the same $$
suspension is the same $$
gauges are the same $$
corbeau seats are the same $$
SS hood is the same $$
caliper paint is the same $$
even pcm editing is similar in price, though you have MORE options with an LS1
i still vote for a swap. i would be impressed with a tricked out 6 yes, but i would rather see that work done on a 8 anyday.
imagine how cool it is to go to the track and get your modded 6 beat by a stock mazda or even a family car subaru.

This thread is about Superchaged v6's, not 'modded'. A superchaged v6 should beat those cars you mentioned :D

a GOOD verter for the LS1 costs you 900. A good one for the V6 can be had for 500.
GOOD long tubes for the LS1 cost 800+
4.10 gear in the 6 costs $300. 4.10 in the 8 costs 1900. (can't dump clutch on a 4.10 10 bolt).

OK you got me
but there are still cheap LS1 mods out there.
but now lets talk about reliability. a swap will be more reliable (i would think - ninos opinion only) how many swaps and how many SCed cars do we have to base our opions.
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

quote:
Originally posted by 99redcamaro: i was thinking about that swap before. i saved $3500 to invest in my car cause it was sitting in my garage for 3 or 4 months after a problem i had with the oil pump. i live in california and every mechanic i asked was telling me bad things about engine swap and state laws and all that crap. so i decided to rebuild the v6 with aftermarket parts so it could support a turbo or supercharge in the future (2 to 3 months). so i was thinking $3000 now, plus $3500 on the turbo and i don't know another $1000 installation. then i'm sure i need to get pcm programming cause i did the 3.42 gears change and i f*** up the shifting points and the speedo readings $400 more. then since i know myself would be the walbro fuel pump, the injectors, the gauges and bla bla bla. so total would be close to $9000 or more.
then (thanks god and my friend for give me the light ) i drove this beast, it's a 2002 camaro SS and the only modification he has done so far is the loudmouth and dynomax muffler, and that was it. i know i love my car, but when you really feel the V8 power, the V8 sound, you just forget about your car, then you start to think why in the HELL i spent that much money in my car.
for real dude, you can spent $10000 in your car doing everything to the engine only to find out that you're making let's say 320-340HP with a turbocharge, headers, cam, pistons, heads, you name it. i know that's a lot when you compare that with your stock 170-190hp. but please you only need $10000 to get a 99 Z28 with low mileages on it. you got that power with a stock car. then add LT headers, loudmouth, dynomax, airlid for like $1500 and you can get 50-60 hp.
so that would put you in 360-380 RWHP easy.
after 3 years of driving my baby i discovered that i'm love again. V8 all the way my friend.
Don't Even Think on Something Else.

Hope this help

dumabass you dont know **** soo ill help you out ummm 340hp from a built turboed v6 my ***
more like 550 easy jackass know what your talking about before you go off an bash **** if you dont know something then dont say it but dont come on here bashing peoples dreams because you think they cant happen
hey jack *** turbo gtp 20psi trapes 129 on a 3000lb car you do the math he has over 500 hp to the wheels and that engin with a stand alone engin managment system could probably run 30psi and 700hp
intense said we will see 1 or 2 700 hp v6's this year
also eveything for the v8's is so much more money then ours and honeslty our cars are sooooo easy to work on because of all the room we have in our engin bay a cam install should take like maybe 2 hours if you have the tools and know what your doing
3.8's are easy to work on, but the LS1's are easier I think. Its so easy to remove the fuel rail, don't have to remove the alternator, coil packs are on trays on each valve cover, very easy to remove the plastic intake.
Driving conditions the same, ls1 swap should be more reliable.

nino- (not a flame)you seem really bitter about your V6 experience which is understandable given the circumstances, but I don't think that means everyone should give up on modding their six not that you didn't try your damndest. i am glad the v8 is working out for you though.

like i said i don't blame him if that would have happened to me i woulda taken the engine out and kicked it as hard as i could and after my broken foot healed.....i'd kick it again.

yes i was a little bitter about my V6 experience, but i was in no way mad. i had a great time, learned a lot, and its only money that i lost. granted i know a few people that if they had spent all that money on something that failed, they would probably want to kill somebody. to me, it was fun while it lasted. like i said, i learned a lot - especially on this board, and for that i am thankful.
i am not dissing modding V6s, i am just saying that if you want power - go for the 8. in this case (for this thread) do a swap. i am living proof of how much HP a swap will net you. i still support SSM, but what i am all about is if you have a 6 and want power garunteed. a swap is my ideal choice. and its cheaper than what people think. i am a little bitter my car died, but man do i love my car now
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.
think of it this way you probably are helping that mechanic put his kid through college. ;)
