  • GT Cam + Hypertech?

I have a question that I could not find an answer when doing a search. Is anyone here running the GT comp cam 210/210 with the hypertech setting on 93 octane?

I was curious to see if it works well together or not.

Also how many of you are running this cam with stock springs, pushrods, etc? Zoomer e-mailed me and said there are about 100 or so of these out there running bone stock with no issue. Just wanted to run this by everyone on the board.

The HPP3 was meant to be run with just bolt ons and such, not a cam or heads or FI or anything of that sort.

      HPP3 is ghey.

You can run the GT cam w/o valvetrain mods.

Seppo, you have the GT cam right? If yes, how do you like it? Can you tell any noticible differences?

Well I have the HPP3, I was wondering if adding a cam with the 93 octane tuning, specificaly the GT cam.... if it would still benifit.

Reason I ask is it did make a slight difference, and if a mild cam like this one makes a slight difference, it all adds up.

I wrote the folks at hypertech and they simply stated that anything that works with stock tunning will be fine with the HPP3 tunning.

However, this doesn't really tell me if it will help or hurt? I was hoping someone out here has tryied it....

            anybody?

I would think that it would help a little.

At least in theory.I mean, the cam will provide more horsepower to start with, so the gains with the higher octane should probablt help more (even if it is very slight).

I think you'd feel a better change with the 4.1 stroker kit though, theres just no replacement for cubic inches.

Well, I was thinking of upping the power this summer. I did a search and the only info I could find was one of my old posts. Since this was a while back, I wanted to re-open this thread for disscussion, and to see if anyone has tried it.

Basically since stock programming isn't really meant for a cam, and neither his hypertech's 93 octane tuning. The question is, will it work better or worse?

I wrote hypertech and they stated that "anything that works with stock tuning will work with the hypertech" But before I try it, I thought I would see if anyone else has done it?

Don't waste your money on the HPP. Just get some custom programming through TSP, or get the DHP PowrTuner or HP Tuners.

Too late, already have it. That is why I asked the question. LOL

GT cam works well with stock internals. I'm sure it would work even better with more internal work, but I'm running my GT cam with stock internals and it's running great (I love the cam, but I was too poor for anything else).

I have the HPP3 as well, but I havn't tried any of the programming with it yet. Now that I'll gettin on up there in the mods, I'm thinking of pawning it to pay for HPTuners or something like that (There's something a little unsettling about a little black box messing with my timing after I've changed the cam).

IthacaV6 could you do me a favor and program your car for 93 octane? I would love to find out if this would help or hurt. That could end this whole debate right now. LOL. Help a brotha out! heh heh. :)

Also you said your running this cam with stock internals. How long have you ran it this way? That was one other thing I was wondering about... if I needed to upgrade springs, retainers, and pushrods.

I thought of using LS6 springs. I read it would work with stock retainers, but I'm not sure if that would be a great idea?

At the very least, upgrade the springs. Stock springs would just be asking for valve float.

With LS6 springs I read you can re-use the retainers. My car only has like 20k miles on it. Are the stockers strong enough to hold the extra preasure from the LS6 springs?
