• ZZP Electric WP, TB Spacer, and 160* thermo installed

it took another day, but it seems worth it to me. I got the ZZP WP put on. you'll need a belt that is shorter than 91 7/8's inches long now because of the removal of the stock wp pully. the car revs a bit mroe freely now, and speeds up fatser than before. the computer still needs to learn about the cooler engine and inlet temps, but that should only take a few days. I also had my MAF screen lip ported. it's now a completely smooth transition from the opening back. I also figure it'll take a while for the car to get used to that, but I don't have a rough idle anymore, which is a good thing. it took me and my mechanic 4-5 hours to put the spacer, wp, and thermostat in as well as port the tb/maf. that's w/ a lot of messing around time and flirting w/ one of the chick mechanics, as well as a 30-45 min. lunch break.

Do you know how much time or HP you picked up with the water pump?

I'm curious too, but this isn't really advanced.

supposedly, the wp will pick up 10 rwhp at 6000 rpm on a stock car. they also say that the power gains will be seen after 3000 rpm or so, since it get u more power back as u speed up the acessories. I know I gained top-end because when I'm in 3rd on the freeway, going up around 100, I accellerate faster than i did before. This can be both because of the water pump, TB spacer, and TB porting. I have not programmed the car for the 160* thermo yet, so I am not getting any gains from that, if I end up getting any. I'm letting the car learn about the new mods before i program it for anything.

I figured this is advanced because the wp isn't really a basic bolt-on, and the tb spacer isn't that common either.

I'd call both of them pretty basic bolt ons. WP is normally just replaced not upgraded but its still basic stuff =) I was thinking about all of that except there are no real good reviews on any of it.

            Got pic's of the install?

Can you tell me how you wired it?

            Thanks!

well, there's a wire harness w/ a black/red combo, 2 green wires, and 1 blue wire. The black/red go to ground I believe, unless the blue goes to ground. i forget which right now, it states in the instructions. the other wire or wires go to the power source. there's 2 green wires which turn the unit on. 1 green wire goes to either the fuel pump or ignition wires, that way the unit only goes on when the car is started and running. This involves getting in and underneath the fuse boxes. any pink wires will do, as long as they don't get constant power(some fuel pump wires always seem to get power on my car, but aren't switched on till the car is on). The other green wire is for a switch inside the cockpit, in case u wanna have the pump on in staging lanes at the track w/ the motor off to cool down to ambient. I left this wire loose and tucked it away. The water pump has a direct connector to the wire harness, so it's somewhat clean. It come w/ a 20 amp fuse, in case of a power surge or spike so the wp doesn't get fried. To make sure it's all wired right, turn the car on accessory and u can hear it running if it's wired right. and before you do all this, make sure the battery is disconnected while ur messing underneath the fusebox since some of the wires have power going to them no matter what.

My digi-cam isn't working right now, otherwise I'd have taken pics. btw, this is a lot easier when the engine is cool. hot coolant sucks when it hits ur hands, and trust me, it will hit once u pull out the 2 lowest bolts on the wp. u also have to let the car warm up and kick out any air bubbles from the system. usually it'll steam over all over the radiator support ont he left side. it'll smell real good till it all evaporates.

for the high rpm gain I got, it's a pretty worthwhile mod, especially since it's only 250 now from ZZP. however, they say that u need a belt that is 3.5" shorter than stock. my moderately worn belt was 94" long. we went w/ a 90 7/8" long belt, and I still think I should get one that's at least 1 more inch shorter. I'd say anything 90 and below would be a good length for an acessory belt.

I also compared it to the stock wp. you can really notice a difference in the vane sizes like on ZZP's website. if u run a 160* thermo, u'll stay at 160*, no doubt about it unless ur radiator can't handle it. Yes, James, I think it's worthwhile mod for u 2 do to ur car at this point, considering ur trying to stay out of the motor as much as possible. I'm sure u could do it in an hour or 2, and it will help ur NA times more than NO2 times prolly, since 10 rwhp isn't much more after a 125 or 150 shot.

you'll need an IAT resistor 18KOhm to keep the PCM happy with a 160 since you have a 2001.

Let me know if you want one, dgo610@comcast.net

                I have lots of spares.

Dom, why do I need the resistor mod? what is it supposed to do for me? advance timing because of the colder motor? I can't remember the model number, but it was a napa autoparts belt. just tell them you want a belt that it 6 rib and so many inches long. the lenghts are on the back of them.

No, actually, without the resistor in the IAT your SES will come on, then the fans will kick on high and the watertemp gauge will die on you. The only way to fix it is to reset the PCM, but it will come back.

In 2001-2002 PCMs they changed the warm-up code and timers. If the PCM sees through the IAT that the outside air temp is above 14degF, it will assume your car should reach 170F in x amount of time. With a 160F, that isn't possible, so by putting an 18K resistor in the IAT (which reads at 10degF or so), you negate this warmup proceedure. It didn't affect my timing at all, it just allows me to run my 160F thermo happily

So the stock belt is 91 7/8" long? What length did you go to? 91"? I just ordered my pulley so I was curious :D

Both can be found on ZZPerformance's website... www.ZZPerformance.com the Tb spacer is in the intake section, I believe, if not on the front page of the newest products. The electric water pump in either cooling or engine sections. just search the site, and it'll be there. if u still can't find them, shoot zoomer an e-mail and he'll prolly provide direct links to them.
