why would you just replace one journal? get a new crank from a junkyard motor... it's looking more and more every day like that's your best option anyway.

a leaking head gasket is what caused it so i can trust a rebuild motor. and if i can build a new one for about800-1000 and get about 120k out of it than a junk yard motor with about 50k and get maybe another 50k out it and pay 600$ for it id be a fool you tell me what the better deal is spend maybe 300 dollars more for 120k or 600 more for maybe 50k

If you have another car to get around with, I would get your current motor rebuilt with strong internals if the block is all good. Then you should not have to worry about your motor for a long time. You will get the added strength also, which will be great in case you plan on adding a turbo/supercharger/nitrous. I have 2 cars and I plan on rebuilding my motor with stronger internals. If you can pull your motor yourself you will save a ton of money. Just my suggestion, do whatever fits yor need and budget. You can probably get a remanufactured motor for like $1,700, give or take a little.

Grinding the crank is not a big deal. People do it all day to resurface the journals when they do a rebuild. Grind with confidence...it will not harm anything. The machine shop will know what is tolerable and what is too far.
