is there anyway to advance the spark timing or do something with the ecu to lean out the car without going all out for hp tuners? i dont have that many mods at the moment, but im really sick of all the backfiring, carbon deposits on my exhaust tips, and fuel consumption going on with my car. im convinced these cars run rich. so does anyone have any idea on how i can get a little more air into the mix? im guessing i'd pick up some hp too. thanks in advance

MAFT+ or mini-AFC could probably help you out with that.AIM: Alientr8tr
1998 Camaro 3.8L
Flowmaster 80-series, !FRA, Eibach Springs, KYB AGX, SLP sway bars, 3.42/LSD, Wings West kit, Z06 Motorsports, Silverstone Metallic paint
Shift 5 - My Band

Mini-AFC is pretty cool. I used it when i had my 3.8. Its a cheap way to lean or fatten up your mixture. It is used by pluggin into the MAF sensor and changes values by dip switches. It comes with instructions so it is easy to use. It has i think 7 dip switches. Combonations of all 7 can add or remove fuel. I tuned my engine with this when i had my Compcam and ported heads. Got a pretty good tune from it. But yet again you get what you pay for, and with the disadvantage of having no control of your timing with the MiniAFC would make me want HPTUNERS. But HPTuners was not yet available or even thought of when i purchased my MiniAFC.

you will always get carbon on your exhaust tips even if the car is lean. but to just change the A/F dont buy the MAFT+, just get the MAFT.Black 1998 Pontiac Firebird A-4 swap
271.4rwhp/259.4rwtq NA
13.30@102.44
www.freewebs.com/wickedsix98

SLP sells a little gismo for 25 bux, claims 5-7 horse. I would try that out along with the mini afc. check out www.rksport.com for it.97 Camaro RS

\"Just a V6 huh?, let\'s go find out how slow it is\"

it's basically a resistor that tricks the computer into thinking the intake air is colder, so it advances timing a hair. I believe Malice made a post a few months back displaying the results of various resistors used.
You can find all the info that's listed in this thread by a simple search though.AIM: Alientr8tr
1998 Camaro 3.8L
Flowmaster 80-series, !FRA, Eibach Springs, KYB AGX, SLP sway bars, 3.42/LSD, Wings West kit, Z06 Motorsports, Silverstone Metallic paint
Shift 5 - My Band
