  • 3.8 Cam Questions

After my headers and rear end are bought I'm probably going to redo my valvetrain. I'm looking for the best combo in roller-rockers, cams, lifters, springs, etc. Any ideas?

You don't really need to worry about the rockers too much, they aren't that big of a priority. As far as cams goes, hit up zzperformance.com. They have some pretty good Cams, their gt2 cam is one of the best. Also, some type of lightened pushrods I am thinking aluminum or chromoly. LS6 Springs.

Most important.. TUNE THE CAR AFTER THE INSTALL.

This will yield the most gains, anywhere from 10-35 horsepower more, against untuned.

The GT2 sounds good. Seems like a lot of guys are praising this cam. However, zzp only has one type of pushrod, and I don't know if they're lightened or not. I'd assume so.

      Found the LS6 springs. Cool.

I'm getting roller-rockers either way. I'm redoing the valvetrain so why not go all out? Every supporting mod only decreases the chances of a mishap, if done right.. right? How are the ones zzp offers (Pro Magnums)?

Also, if I go with the zzp pushrods, gt2 cam, and ls6 springs, which ratio would I go with on the roller-rockers? 1.6/7/8?

      Thanks, Perry!

GT2 cam is what i have, its a nice cam. Very street freindly once mine was tuned.

ZZP sells Comp. Cams Hi-Tech rods. They are chromoly 4130 i think. They are good.

www.abbottracingheads.com Check them out for cams also, they are great guys.

Springs i'd go with Comp. Cams 105 lb. springs

1.6 ratio is what i would stick with on your stock heads.

If you are going all out get some heads from abbott racing.

And if I go with the ported heads, which sound like a good idea, what ratio?

And if I get ported heads from Abbotts, should I get the GT3s instead of the GT2s?

And what about roller lifters? Should I go to that extent, too?

Okay, so I'm going with... (with a few questions at hand..)

All but the ported heads/intake are from ZZP:

                </font>
                • Stage 2 Abbott Racing Heads (comes with LS6 springs)</font>
                • Abbott Racing Ported Intake Manifold</font>
                • CompCams GT2 Cam (should I go with the GT3? I'm not going to stroke, but...)</font>
                • CompCams Hi-Tech Pushrods (which size to go with?)</font>
                • SI Stainless Valves (again, which sizes?)</font>
                • ProMagnum Roller-Rockers (1.6/7/8?)</font>
                • Should I go with Roller-Lifters?</font>

                Anything else I should add?

                    You already have roller lifters.
You might want some comp OERs.

                      Aren't OERs Roller-Lifters?

That's what I meant though.. should I get upgraded ones?
