I'd go with the lunati for a small cam...

If you want more lift without swaping the cam you can find a 93-95 "3100" in the junkyard, those had 1.6 rockers on them stock(non-roller,96+3100/3400s have roller rockers, but they wont work without a lot of work)

The problem is that the Crane website doesn't list the 2020 OR the 2030 cam as emissions legal.

      http://www.cranecams.com/index.php?s...ze=2.8-3.1%20L

The bottom 2 cams are the 2020 and 2030 cams. Both are listed as non-emissions legal. If you run a small cam and a well tuned engine, you would be fine with the emissions test.

You COULD also do a small cam like the Lunati or the Edelbrock with a set of Comp 1.52 or 1.6 roller tipped rocker arms for a little more valve lift.

The key to passing smog tests is having a strong ignition system to burn the fuel completely and a good cat to filter out anything that should not be coming out. With those 2 things in place, you would be okay.

We should get a little chat room started sometime tonight or something for the people with input on this topic. It would make things a lot easier.

Yeah it sure would. right now i have some taylor wires and bosch platinum +4 plugs with the stock cat. now the stock cat might be the best, but I'm thinking some high output coils and I should be set? The only thing bugging me is that I want a lot of lift but I'm afraid that too much will cause me to fail smog :(

I like that cam kit you just added to your site. Then all I need to buy is the roller rocker/pushrod kit. Now I'm considering the two small cams from Comp. I'm thinking the .390 with 1.6 rockers or the .425 with 1.52 rockers... Geez your site kicks ***, it has everything for sixes!

The thing I like most about the Lunati and Edelbrock cams are the fact that their LSAs are 112 degrees which will give you a better idle resulting in better fuel burn at idle.

The Edelbrock cam would be good for performance, especially with a set of 1.6 rocker arms. It has the high LSA also so it will idle well.

You will have to ajust the timing to get it to run right any way.
All ways think this: Mod = tune up, all most every time.
Any thing less than .480'' lift is nothing.
I laugh at the ricers when they drop in a cam and try and drive it and it runs like crap.
I hear them say "well I lost a lot of low end but my high end is killer". They will say that while it runs like crap.

With the Edelbrock cam, you would not have to adjust the cam timing. Like you said about .480" lift being small, it's a good low profile cam that will help, but should not require too much more to get it to run right.

Guys over on thirdgen.org have had problems with there car runing like crap even after a 2030 cam install. Losses with both low and top end power.
I know that 272 cam won't run right unless I play with the timing. I won't see full power untill I can remap the timing curve.

Okay I got a question... How much interchangabilty is there between the 95 3.4l and the 95 3.8l? I am having trouble finding the big torque and hp gains I need to run competitive. Any help and suggestions would be greatful. I am trying to find cams, but they all seem to be for the 3.8. That is why I've asked this question here.

The 3800 engines and 3.4 are totaly different engines. There is no interchangability between them.
The 272 I mentioned is the crane 2-272-H cam.
It has 216*/228* duration @.05 with a LSA of 112* and .481/.480'' total lift with my 1.6/1.5 ratio crane gold roller rocker combo (intake/exhasut).
If any one wants one your in luck, I had to wait months to get mine becasue they were out of cores.
Get one now so you don't have to wait.
