• Hp tuners for a '01 car on a '00 car?

Yes I know its year specific but has any ever tried it?

Or is there a for sure reason why it wouldn't work...

And next question, any unusual changes if I swapped to a '01 PCM

because it looks at the computer and can tell what year it is and the software is locked to only work on a certain year, you big dumb ignorant son of a ***** (added at the request of a former member)

Has it been proven? Do we know for sure there is a specific line of code that checks this. Or are we just going by this because they said so.

I believe that the code which GM wrote in changed EVERY year, which is why HPtuners is model year specific. Actually, from what I understand, there are several variations within the same year and could require patches to the version of HPTuners that you buy to make it work even within the same year.

ok I was looking along the lines for an answer like that.

Nate calm down, not trying to get fussy, just wanted a reason. People still tell me you cannot put a rearaxle from a lt1 on to a 3.4L without massive fabircation work. Well I put on on a car ~4 years ago and its still running strong.

Simple logic, is GM is a big parts bin company. I thought maybe the PCMs were identical from '00-'02, especially since they were unlikely looking to make new innovations in a car they discontinued. For some reason people don't realize GM is a parts bin company, example, I am looking for a CD changer for a vette, they go for ~$100-150 more then CD changer for a buick on ebay, despite being the same part down to the part number.

It will not work, the model year of your car is encoded in a few places on the PCM including your vin.. I am sure they check all of them..

HPtuners is a sweat deal these days anyway.. expecialy if you are trading in an old cable like autotap..

If anything At could add your cars year to his cable for $200.. probably a better idea then swapping pcm's.. and more cost effective..

yah it wont let you download the stock file from the computer...figure the year is in the vin # so they can tell right off the bat if that vin/year coincide with what years you have your licenses for.

you can easily change the vin number in the car, to the year you have access to. and download the stock file of a different year car.

however, when it goes to rewrite it won't let you write a file of a different year than the cable was purchased for, so it does you no good.

I've seen it tried by others (ls1, not v6(

however, you may be able to put a 2001 computer in your car, cheaper than adding a 2001 license to a cable.
