My guess is that since the exhaust valves are smaller, a larger duration evens it out.

generally a split duration cam will be used for a car that is running nitrous, a large ammount of compression, or boost from a suprecharger

it is used because of the excess ammount of exhaust gasses produced by such motors

is that advised for the Comp cam on josh's site. or if i plan on nitrous, should i run a split ratio setup. i ultimately plan on deciding on my cam once the heads are done, and flow bench tested, just want to have all my options in line with price ranges ahead of time. PLus, i love all of the feedback!

You can call Lunati or Comp and tell the cam tech guys what you want to do and they can offer you a good custom cam selection. From there, get the grind number that they give you and the specs and you are good to go. Then, you can call me and I can put the order through for you. It will be the same price as the 16.000.5 cam since that is technically a custom grind also.

What is the price on it? I am getting another cam for next year, a custom grind that will be a roller. Any ideas on prices?

How are you gonna run a roller system on the 3.4L V6? The oiling system is not effecient enough to run the roller system.

It's going to be a solid roller cam. What oiling problems are you referring to?

The main reason that nobody has switched to a roller system on the 3.4s is that the oil distribution through the lifter valley is not sufficient. There would have to be some major block work to get it to operate correctly.

Crane neglected to mention that. I will have to get back to them. Thanks for the heads up.

Ok, for the time being, what price our you talking about for a custom grind? No rollers.

For a hydraulic flat tappet custom grind you are looking at:
                            $179.13 for a CompCams
                            or
                            $165.83 for a Lunati

How about for a solid lifter cam? Those are really good prices for custom grinds! How are they so cheap?

New CNC or some thing like CNC cam grinding machines.
Now they can fill an order for a custom grind in less than 24hr if there not backed up and have the cores on hand.
They make the custom and standard cams on the same machine with the same process.
