  • FAST ECU instead of programming

After reading the Nov '03 issue of GMHTP, I was wondering if our cars would be able to run one of the FAST ECU systems instead of reprogramming our ECMs. Its able to map A/f thoughout the curve and neat stuff like that. What do you guys think. It would be great if it did with all the power-adders out there.

I am getting very familiar with that system. I am doing alot of the tuning on my friends 1300HP outlaw car. 390cu, D3R procharger blowing 28PSI of intercooled boost.

It is a big time mod, and only worth it if you have a race car in my opinion. Some street cars have them, but they are very hard to tune for driveability. There are ALOT of quirks and some bugs to get used to. It isn't as easy as entering the A/F you want. I am learning alot as I go. If it weren't for a fuel pressure problem, we could have given it more timing at the dyno this weekend and made some wicked numbers.

They even have trans controllers for the 4L60E.

FAST is pretty easy to program. It's by far the easiest of the domestic stand alone's. Dee's right, the driveablity and street manners greatly diminish, but sometimes sacrifices must be made. I've been kicking around the idea of FAST, DFI or another form of stand alone. Anyone else have any ideas?

See thats what I was thinking. Now that the options are available as far as power-adders go, we know the blocks are strong enough, it seems to me from listening to you guys, what standing in the way of greatness is the d&*^ computer. Even Magnus was having problems getting his car tuned right if I'm not mistaken. Imagine what his could have really did. At that price I know its pretty high but look what some people are already paying. We know a v8 is cheaper, but for those who are paying to stay with a 6, I think it would be a viable option IF it would work.

It will work. And would be the preferred option if you get serious(almost race only). The good thing is you don't have to deal with all the OEM BS. There are quite a few turbo buick guys already using the FAST system. So, you could get a base program from them and go from there if you were going turbo. But you won't be OBD compliant. ;)

it jsut depends on how fast you can pick things up mentally and how fat your wallet is. give these a few years and the prices will come down alot.

Also, another big benefit of these is the wideband O2 closed loop operation.

                    I can't afford it myself.....
