You also have to remember, I have a modified PCM. My shift points are higher than yours. I did plug in my performance shift button so I can somewhatlower and raise my shift points on the fly like GTPs. With it off, I NEVER experience valve float. Thats at about 57000 RPMs. On the other hand, with it on and shifting at 6000 RPMs, I DO get valve float. Just remember, you experience it at high RPMs, and you need to run to those high RPMs to get the most power out of the rockers.

I have experienced valve float...
Upond over reving on a shift... The car spudders/runs rough though the next gear, or until I let off the gas some. That is about to only way to describe it with out experiencing it.Keith - 99 'maro - White M5 - bumpstick and boltons - 13.65 @ 101 N/A

Thanks all. It sounds like I will know it if and when it happens. I know what the rev limiter is like when it kicks in...(only had car a little while...3.42 gears MUCH shorter than my barracuda with 2.73 and 727 TqF... LOL...much shorter indeed.)

GAS Mileage:
gas mileage seems about the same. Daily driving is about the same. When the roads dry up...I am sure efficiecny will drop...but I don't anticipate by much. So, rokers take a bit more fuel...cruising speed on freeway at 65 is less rpm, though. kinda cool. just under 2 grand rather than right at 2 grand. (this could also be the colder denser air) If I had put a cam in....I would already have been to gas pump. I still have 1/4 tank. doing good.
GPFish is right about the rockers kicking in at about 4000rpm. Nice to feel that extra pulling.

Were the rockers a standard 3/8 stud? I ask because I read that LS1 rockers are interchangable, and I heard someplace that the LS1 is just like any other small block V8 with 3/8?
Is this true? I would suspect not, otherwise you could just use any 3/8 roller rocker in whatever ratio. Which summit racing, and Jegs has some good ones priced pretty good too. Thanks, <br />JAM<p>02 Firebird GT

oops...
um....um....don't know about the rocker compatibility. but more than the stud size would matter I think. the actual size of the rocker and it's orientation to the push rod seat for example. no idea.
The L36 springs are compatible for sure. medium load...fare price. LS6 springs use the same retainers as well.
Are you thinking of springs?

No, LS1 rockers wont work. ZZP has and is trying to get more rockers from Comp, and Intense goes through Harland Sharp IIRC.
Only the LS1/LS6 springs will work on our heads.1999 Grand Prix GT<br /><br /><a href=\"http://www.fishsgt.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.fishsgt.com</a><br /><br />Best ET: 14.94@91.25MPH with a 2.2 60\"

If you shift over 5800, you will most likely see valve float with the aluminum Gen 3 rockers. I installed a set on my g/f car and didnt add the stronger valve springs. I took the car on the highway and when trying to shift to 6k (like the INTENSE pcm wants to), but had valve float. With the performance shift off and lower shift, the car was fine. I opened the car back up and installed LS6 springs. Problem solved. You can reuse the stock retainers and locks if you wanted or can upgrade to the comp cam retainers.
The gen1 rockers that were reworked stock rockers didnt seem to have this problem as often for whatever reason. I installed many sets without issue when those rockers were the only option.

I think that settles it. See, I told you the GP dudes know about these rockers.
Thanks again for all the feedback and support for this thread.

I had my PCM reprogramed and shifts at 6000, and I got valve float with a completly stock engine and 100,000 miles. I since replaced the valvesprings with free low milage ones and it went away for now. 92 S10 3800 A4(96)<br />1/4: 14.374 @ 92.25 w/ 1.976 60\'<br />Turbo and 12\'s Coming Soon!
