Mobil 1 here as well. I've pulled off the valve covers to check the rockers and everything looked fine. I haven't gone any deeper yet until I get some new rocker bolts.

I use mobil one, but back when I used no synthetic it made the same noise. I have run different weights also.

I took the valve covers off and ran the car, oil distribution was perfect, rockers look good, pushrods looked like they had play when running, but the arent bent... weird.. Guess I need to check lifter.... I am wondering if I need oil restricted pushrods?? dunno yet.

i think our motors just have a certain amount of tick built into them for whatever reason... be it injector pulse, a slightly loose pushrod, whatever... at least it doesn't sound like an LS1 at idle.

Hate to bring back an old post, but I'm getting that same tick, seems like it just does it around 1,700rpms to around 3000rpms and then it either goes away or just fades where it's doing it so fast. I just changed my header and colloector gaskets to metal for headers and copper for collectors, i had paper, which some of the tick was due to the paper gaskets, had blown out, but there is still a tick there at those rpms. I have the 1.8 rockers, it seems to have started after those. I'm thinking maybe the injectors are ticking louder due to the amount of fuel being pushed through maybe, i have no clue. Have any of you guys figured out anything. Mine has been doing this for years now, and my car runs smooth, and it has the same power, well more now since I've added some other stuff. But, I was just wondering if anyone has figured anything out yet. :D

          Thanks,

Wow, this was an old post!

            What are your engine mods?

Could it be EGR leaking if you have headers? Did you upgrade springs and not use LS1-style retainers? Did you use new bolts on the rockers?

I strongly recommend anyone hearing this tick, expecially with any sort of modified valvetrain/cams/rockers to AT LEAST take the front cover off and inspect the timing chain and damper.

I have the EGR totally blocked off. I'm thinking either injectors or rollor rocket noise???? maybe??? I searched and read all the post... I finally ran up on this one that sounded just like mine is doing, I was hoping by now someone would have found out something. I didn't upgrade my springs, so I'm still using my old ones. My car still runs strong, just has that tick as you stated at the beginning 98Camaro3.8
